1969 Mercury Cyclone Spoiler II Cale Yarborough special

Here's a great and rare car!! I started with the Polar Lights Mercury, from which I used the body, bumpers, grille and chassis,  and a AMT Torino Talladega, which donated the wheels, interior tub and dash.

The wheel arches had to be reshaped, as well as the the rear of the car. The dash was modified to match the original, and the two bucket seats joined to make a bench seat. The rear light panel is completely scratch built, as well as the rear spoiler. Decals came from Ebay.

It's not a perfect copy, but for me close enough! Hope you like it.

    Marc

A very, very nice model Marc. I love a good kit-bashing job. By the way, what exactly is a Quantity Surveyor? Just curious.

Very nice conversion to stock. Great job with the dash, from what I can see from the picture it looks spot on, as does the tail light panel. Great work!

Very nice build of a very cool car !

On a side note, about 18-20 years ago a buddy of mine and myself set off to Atlanta on a junkyard mission to Old Car City USA,  a junk yard specializing in pre 70s cars to search for GTO and Impala parts, long story short it was not open when we got there, the owner was running for office and was no where to be found, so we took some pics through the fence and set off again armed with a junk yard guide that Id got from Old Cars weekly, the guide that put us on the mission to start with, so that night at the hotel looking through the guide we discovered another huge yard in North Carolina full of old cars, the name was Richards, I do remember that and it was either in Ashville or Ashboro ,still cant remember, reguardless one was close and the other was on the opposite side of the state,  when we got to the town that was the closest to Atlanta we discovered we needed to be in the other, so throught the Smokey Mountians we went, beautiful road trip, we finally ended ith the other town later in the evening and stalked out the yard, hit a hotel for some much needed sleep and early to the yard the next morning. Mind you , we are from Maryland  and in North Carolina, so when checking in at the office with what we were looking for and a fella rolls out of an office close to the desk and asked " where are you boys from" we all but ran back to the car screaming, turns out he was the owner and recognized our "accent", turnes out he was from Gettysburg Pa, about 20 mins from where we were from, and that was our in , Richard was a super nice man and gave us the grand tour of everything, all teh buildings, his own personal collection,  a really awesome experience, let us have the run of the yard for the day and geave us one hell of a break on parts, when we returned to the office he asked what we thought, my biggest thing was  "you have 3 Cyclones, 2 Yarborough, and 1 Gurney, ", they were all beat up bretty bad and stripped, but all still wearing what appeared to be original paint, at that point the only ones Id ever seen were in magazines, I was shocked, tehn Richard gave me the reply, "well you know this is the original NASCAR country and most of them were sold around here" What a great trip, and sorry I did not mean to be so long winded or steal a thread,  but your model made me think of that trip !, And a sincere thanks for that !

Guys, thanks very much for all the kind comments!!!

It was really hard to find good photos of the Cale Yarborough version on the internet, especially the real long nose version!
