    Fujimi-Testors Slant-nose Porsche Masking

I have never ever worked on a model that has as detailed and complicated a set of instructions as this one does. I thought I was slow before: I'm not even going to be able to take all the pieces off the tree ahead of time to clean them. I have to do this one page at a time. And the painting instructions are unbelievable. This is gonna be one slow WIP. I didn't take a pic of it but I had to put the body in hot water because it had been crunched at the A, B and C pillars sometime during its storage; fortunately that worked very well

Yeah, I know what you mean !!! I have the 930 version of this kit and I don't know when I'm ever going to have the time to build it right. It sure looks like fun though !!!

Well this ticks me off. I've got 4 other models that have been wating to get done and here I am starting another one. I just couldn't wait to start this one though. So that means all the other ones get delayed;again.I hate half finished stuff and I'm starting to get too many of that kind of stuff

When you reach triple digits in the "unfinished" model catagory, let me know that yer catching up.......No actually if I counted right now, I probably "only" have about 70. With 5 on the bench that just need the last touches. I'm not even thinking of starting my 930 until I take care of some back log......and a few other projects I have in mind.

I kind of got sucked into this kit. A friend of mine started a build of 1 many years ago. He gave up and gave me the kit, I was blown away at the detail, but parts were missing, etc. so I just raided it for parts here and there. Every time I pulled out a piece of the kit, I thought, "I've gotta get another one of these". Now I just need the time for it. I thought about getting the body painted so I might be able to work on it this winter, but primer is as far as I've gotten. I do have a color chosen though, which is another place I sometimes stumble. It will be Taymia Gunmetal, black interior.

Hang in there and take your time. These kits get a bad rep, but I like them - I've already built two myself and have about six more in my stash (all various models/variations). Good luck!

Can anyone tell me if the vents on top of the fenders are actually open or are they just for looks?

Ditto for me . I have one of those made in the lackluster early '80's . It is a curbside with provision for an electric motor to get around tarrifs . I finished it in a horrible Paint job . It disgusted me and I lost it into the strip tank . I also lost the windows . I will someday re do it . Hang in there . Stay with it . The harder builds for me end up as prizes for me .

I have a suggestion . Use a sink with a strainer to catch any parts that fall off . It will be the smallest parts to do so . So make sure it has small holes  . Wash the entire Tree with all the parts attached . When small parts shed , you'll have them in the strainer . If not you will be taking apart the trap of the drain . Voice of experience , I found a smaller stainer . I've been doing this for a while now .    Thanx..

    Re: Fujimi-Testors Slant-nose Porsche

I've built a few of these Fujimi Enthusiast kits, mostly Porsche 356 variants, and the Ferrari Daytona and Dino.

The detail on them is great, but they do take some commitment to build, and they're not for beginners. The main thing I found was that the location tabs etc for matching one part to another was on the wobbly side of things, and I had to take an educated guess as to where the bits need to come together.

Good research helps in building these models, so good luck.

There's no question its a beautiful model. I'm building hinges to keep the trunk and hood in the open positions because of the detail. Anyone know about those fender vents?

    Re: Fujimi-Testors Slant-nose Porsche

I would think the vents are for real on the Slantnose . Mass assembled cars use fake vents and louvers for style or agressive looks . Race cars don't have time for frivolous additions . Notice race cars don't have trim or the  bright work as  corresponding street versions have . When a panel gets wrecked , the replacement has to be on hand . No extra time would be spent to remove and replace decorations . Thanx..
