    Oct. mag.

Just got the new Scale Auto in the mail today. Great article on making a convertible from a hard top. This is what I wanted to do with my Torino, now I can. Still reading the rest of the mags other articles, as usual all great stuff.

    Re: Oct. mag.

Thanks for the insight, I can't wait for my issue to arrive. I find it interesting that the magazine has already made it to Canada and here I am in the states and it probably won't show up for at least another week!

I am sure it has something to do with those fine government employees that mangle my mail on a somewhat regular basis.

    Re: Oct. mag.

Mike, I totally agree with you. I even received an e-mail congratulating me for having one of my models printed in the magazine and I haven't received my issue to see it! I can't wait to see it. I think I'm going to have to run out to the book store today to see if they have a copy. I do want to add that I do not blame Scale Auto. I was in the publishing business and all the magazines go to the distributor at the same time. It's just a delivery issue. Unless Jim is personally holding back my issue to make me sweat.

Mangle it..how about NEVER receiving it! I contacted Customer Service as I signed up in April...only received one so far. Oh well, maybe it's because I live in the Deep South and mail only gets here when the road ain't washed out!

Shucks Mike, You do live in SC, what did you expect? We both started our subs around the same time and I have got 2 so far and only one in a clear plastic bag. Yeah, it is a miracle but hey, I live in GA.

Word is, Mongo has been reading them and passing it around the 'hood after he is finished. I thought your 'hood had paved roads? Hmmm, it figures you live in the "bottoms"!

Thanks Plastic for your comments on the convertible article.  I would like to take all the credit but the reality is that the Scale Auto staff did a great job laying out and producing the article from my text and photos. Good luck on your Torino project....that sounds like a great conversion.  TIM BOYD

How long do I have to wait before I can declare it missing-in-action and ask for a credit?

    Skumole,

I'm happy that you received your magazine.  I was asking an honest question and was hoping for a response from Jim or one of the administrators with a "let's give it another week", or "call customer service on that", or another answer.  There was no involved.

The post was opened about an article that ran and some of us are simply responding by stating that we would like to comment on the article if we could see it.  Maybe those of use who are loyal subscribers should have access to read the entire magazine online and not just snippits.  90% of the model builders I know have dropped their subscriptions because they can get it earlier at the local store.  Since subscribers drive revenue and advertising for the magazine, I think it is something that Scale Auto should be well aware of.

I'm sorry that we are wasting your time by posting our concerns.  Maybe we're just giving Jim a head's up that he should be looking for alternatives to his distribution channel.

    Thanks,

I got my author's copy over a week ago, but my subscriber copy has yet to arrive. Usually the subscribed copy arrives during the last week of a month or the first week of another month.

    Re: Oct. mag.

Folks, I'm just the editor here; I have no say in, or control over, such things as distribution, delivery, etc. And that's a good thing; I have plenty to do, and there are experts here for the other areas.

That said, I will repeat what I seem to explain after each issue:

KPC has no control over whose magazine is delivered when, or which day a newsstand chooses to put a new issue on the shelf. There are all sorts of delivery variables, depending on how the copies are delivered in various parts of the country.

The biggest thing that makes people think an issue is "late" is when newsstands put an issue out the day they get it, instead of using the on-sale date they're supposed to -- and this happens a lot. That can actually shorten the number of days the previous issue is available for sale, which is not a good thing (or a true indicator of how each issue sold).

The newsstand on-sale date for the October issue is September 2; obviously some places already have it on sale, which is what makes it "seem" that the issue is "late" when it really isn't. All subscriber copies should have been mailed by 8/23.

As for putting the entire magazine on line, there are a number of reasons why this hasn't happened, including how advertising would be handled. It's "complicateder" than it may seem.

Those sorts of procedures/decisions are developed and implemented at levels well above me; my role is about content, not advertising or distribution or circulation.

And yes, if you don't receive an issue soon, a call to Customer Service is probably your best bet. They are super-quick to respond, and will take good care of you.

    Re: Oct. mag.

Come on guys, don't blame the publisher if your mag. is late in the mail, No one twisted your arm to subscribe, you could have still gone to you LHS or book store to get it and complain to them when it doesn't get in. I have three subscriptions mailed to me and never had a problem.
