    Alternative to flocking

I'm in need of an alternative to flocking an interior tub since it seems my local hobby lobby no longer carries traditional flocking. Any ideas on how to get around this, I'd like a do it yourself type of idea rather than going out and buying it straight out. thank you

well detail master sells flocking you could order it from them or maybe order it through your hobby shop to save on shipping.

the only do it yourselfer i can think of it to get some over spray on your parts to texture it but i dont think it'll work nearly as good as flocking

If you don't mind using brush paints, you can add texture using a stiff brush and unthinned paint. Give the area a coat of paint, then go over that area with a stiff brush, holding it perpendicular to the surface and dabbing the area with the brush- don't spread the paint, just poke the area with the tips of the bristles. I think this is referred to as "stippling". Try it on a piece of scrap first. I think you'll like the results.

I used the fabric paint by model masters..It dries textured and it is easier than using bottle paints. I have found it in gray, light blue and red. you can find it online or your LHS might carry it. Hope this helps.

I suggest Softflock by Donjer, you can buy it online:

I have had good luck with this; you can use their white glue to bond it to your interior, or, I have a thing on my blog about using liquid cement and acrylic paint to bind it.

I use baking soda to flock with.Use it just like you would flocking.Only thing is that you will have to spray paint it.I've never tried brushing on the paint. It looks just as good as flocking.

You can also use the scale motorsports textured paint.

    RE: Alternative to flocking

Thank you everyone for the help, its greatly appreciated. I'm surrently working on a amt 63 vette for my fiance and I had to do custom work on the interior which is why flocking is my choice to remove any of the mods from sight. Not to mention the ugly circles/pins on the floor pan make it impossible to use the orignal pattern on the floor as "carpet". I think I'll use the baking soda alternative and post up results once I'm further along. Thanks once again

I've never tried baking soda but use microballons. These are found in the r/c airplane section of most hobby shops. I brush white glue on the floor and then cover in the microballons just as done with flocking. Then brush or spray color of choice. These also make good body filler when mixed with c.a. glue and used with an accelerator.

Go to Michael's and get a few bottles of Embossing powder. Use the white glue method and that's it. If you want a specific color you can always opt to paint it!!!

Cruz that looks more to scale than flocking for the early tight knap carpets.

What I like most of it is that there are not any flocking "hairs" all over the air when using conventional flocking and not only is it more to scale but you can paint it any color you want!!ApproveApprove
