RE: Can anyone show me how to make subwoofers
I would like to second that, and maybe add some tweeters and various other smaller speakers. I am in the process of trying to recreate my 1:1 stereo and can't find anything remotley close to what I am currently running, so I am going to have to scratch build everything, amps, subs, 3way front stage, xovers, eq's, fuse/ground blocks, EVERYTHING.
this is my sub BTW I have seen one place that is somewhat close but there are not enough spokes on the basket and from the looks of it the cone assembly is pretty much all one blob of resin.
When will the search function ever get fixed?

This isn't real high-tech but I made one by photoreducing a picture of a speaker, placing it in a sheet plastic box and adding a rubber o-ring.

RE: Can anyone show me how to make subwoofers
any ideas on how to get this look?
I would greatly appreciate all thoughts and ideas.
btw it has had a few minor updates since that pic. ;)
I am not really so much worried about the box as I am about the sub. I figure if I built it once I can surley do it again.
a pic of the amp rack if anyone here cares.

RE: Can anyone show me how to make subwoofers
The O-ring thing is a good idea for subs that are visible from the front. For ones that are visible from the back, I think you guy are going to have to make them. It wouldn't be that hard to make one sub, so once one is made, make molds of it and then copies.
Bare Metal Foil has the mold making and part casting stuff. Otherwise its all o-rings or building each one by hand. Hope this was helpful.

RE: Can anyone show me how to make subwoofers
Hmm....well I haven't really dove into scratch building that deep YET either. Just gathered tutorials and materials for the stuff I want to be able to do. But two simple things I have done are make a new truck bed and make a new floor pan for a cab out of styrene sheet. So what I guess I would do is draw the shape of what I want each part of the sub to be on paper and use those stencils to trace those shapes onto styrene sheet. Then I could just roughly cut them out and sand them to the correct shape. After that, assemble them into one sub. from there you could cast like I said or repeat the building process.
Just remembered, another thing I saw on here called vacuum forming, like how the mythbusters make molds for their jello people? You could look up a guide on here to build a vacuum former. All you basically do is heat up the plastic until it becomes soft enough to take the shape of whats underneath of it, then your house hold vacuum(or what ever else) is used to suck the plastic down onto the piece via a box with wholes.
Well, my brain just locked up, so, I guess that's all I can give ya. Maybe I'll build some subs for my next project....

RE: Can anyone show me how to make subwoofers
so I guess what you are trying to say is basically try to break it all down into simple shapes and "trim" from there. I guess if I am to get any deeper into this money dweling "hobby" (addiction) I am going to have to break my cherry sometime.
as for the vacucme forming idea, I think I like fire better! !HAHA I got some sub studing to do now THX.

This web-site which is mainly for lowriders, has a lot of audio and video in resin at a pretty reasonable price as opposed to trying to build things from scratch. www.scalelows.com

Try this web site. Click on the "shop" button at the top and go from there... looks like the ebay store is very limited now.

I made a small order to get a video display for a friends M3. At the same time I picked up a turbo, intercooler, brakes and some other misc parts for a VW project coming up. The shipping was very fast even from Australia. I will be buying from him again shortly.
let me know how it goes

RE: Can anyone show me how to make subwoofers
I have 2-little "sub-boxes" that I put in the rear hatch-area of the '98 WS6 Trans Am-kit (they fit perfectly!), that I got out of an old S-10 "Lowrider" Pick-up kit, of some sort. It had a decal of a "surfer guy" on the hard tonneu, I believe, and everything was molded in green. They originally went in the bed-area on the truck model.

These photoetched kits might resemble your sub a little better

Lax
You can find reverse subwoofers in the AMT Fast Furious 3 kits (EVO, or 350Z), but if you have some AMT Mercury 49 you can use back side of the weels for normal woofers. Another cheap option you can use the cap from some eye drop solutions, cuting only the top.

The Cadillac Escalade kit has a set-up of four speakers, the enclosure, and and amp.
I haven't really been working on anything lately, too much stuff to do, not a moment to spare unfortunately.
