2010 Fuel Altered "The run to the 4's" (updated 24/02/10)

Here is the start of my 2010 Fuel altered
    The run to the 4's
This a dream of mine to see a 4 sec altered @ 300 MPH

I have started with a 99 Firebird Funny car body and i'm putting together the parts to complete this project.

I will be completing the body first then the chassis etc.

This is so unique and original yet still a direct link to the past. I can't wait to see it finished. The body work must have been a real challenge. What frame-engine kit are you using? That Firebird front nose piece and modified body will look great with a large by huge blown motor and big slicks out back. For a brief time, to replace the regular guy that broke his arm, I was a crew member on a "T" altered with a big block Chevy with dual 4 barrels on a tunnel ram manifold and it ran close to 180 MPH in the quarter mile on racing gasoline. These are brutally fast little racers and can be scary fast with a blown motor on nitro. You seem to know about these cars so I believe this build will be excellent. What color are you going to paint it? I would go with a stock Firebird color just to help point out it's origin as a "factory" car at one time. Keep us posted and have fun building this neat little race car. It could go that fast in real life with the engine-clutch-tire-fuel delivery-computer control technology of today. Thanks for the post and photos; Patrick

Hey PatrickI'm building this altered as if John Force left his funny car body at home when he rolls up at Pomona in a few weeksNot sure on the body colour yet, I have a mate making some killer flame masks for the bodyI have been building this car for 3 months and i've only posted afew pictures.Using a funny car block with lots of scratch building

Here is where i'm up to shorten body a few times still needs loads of work

The front nose I haven’t taken any further

Found all the parts needed for this project, using comp resin fuel tank, partsbox catch can, fuel pump, pulleys, fuel front wing and rear end, lastly a Tem superman blower and scoop.

Have just started modifying a chassis, not sure how it will turn out, haven't seen a modern Fuel Funny car chassis in a number of years, no one in Australia runs current stuff.

Update I have decided to build a 3 rail chassis as I like the new designs. As i haven't seen a current funny car chassis in real life I had to base it on a few pictures I found on John force.com. I have built  the rear end out of revell TF hubs, partsbox.com.au t/f rear end and resin brakes. I have cut the body again a number of time to allow the set back blower to sit over the body. Currently building wheelie bars, tinwork and overflow tank and rear details

Re: 2010 Fuel Altered "The run to the 4's"

Here is the finished painted bare chassis, and some of the parts that are being placed into the chassis.

Body still needs some work, most parts are ready and painted. The hardest part is over getting everything to fit and the designing process

Need to design a better front spolier and 300MPH wing

Adding Ford crash box, fire bottles, oxygen bottles for driver, air bottle for clutch, air timers, MSD setup, Weld front wheels, setback blower, all tin work, puke tank, fuel tank, wheelie bar carbon fibre hat, seat and as many parts as my skills allow, still learning the correct methods on applying carbon fibre decals, Still have lots to learn, any ideas on how to apply to blower hats and seats without using loads of small pieces etc.  Would love to hear from you.

It's getting warm here in oz making painting easier, have had lots of rain of late

Wow you are putting a lot of effort in this model. The idea is fun and it sure will be an interesting built.

Gee It scares me just to think how fast a machine like this one would be.

    Hey Yugster

great build to answer your question they make a product called micro sol decal solvent. haven't used it yet but I here it will soften the decal so it will bend easier. read about it and am going to try it myself look into it.
