    Aftermarket bolts

I bought some photoetched nut and bolt heads from Model Car Garage.  Although useful, they seem to me very 2-dimensional---very flat.  They didn't seem to stick out far enough from whatever I attached them to.

The other issue was gluing them in--not matter how hard I tried some glue always showed around the bolt....it's not much taller than whatever glue you use to attach it.

so: I was wondering if anyone knows if there is a way to get bolts that "stick out" a bit more--I could see making holes with a pin vise and putting the shafts of some tiny bolts in the holes, something like that?

If so, who makes them and where can I get them?  Or do I need to use the photoetched nut/bolt heads and just deal?

I live in the continental US.  Thanks in advance for any help; you can provide.

hi clamm, what I've been using is Plastruct brand hex stock, for instance .030 hex rod #90872 has 10 pieces for around $3.00, that will make alot of bolt heads & nuts, I use a tiny drill bit to place the hex stock in, just a small drop of Tenax as it will over power that small of a piece of plastic, then with small nippers cut it down to the height you need, it's cheeper than after market stuff and looks better to me, .020=1/2in.in 1/25 scale.030=3/4in. in 1/25 scale. .040=1in. in 1/25 scale ect.

Try the railroad section of the LHS if thats not an option Grandt Line has a line of nbw (nut, bolt, washer) in all the popular scales

scalehardware all the way. Excellent stuff. Also you can email Robert (RB Motion) who makes/sells these as well. I use a combo of both, but mainly the scalehardware stuff.

I'm with coocoochris on this one, Plastruct hexagonal rod all the way. It is the cheaper way to go, and since you are attaching plastic to plastic you can use a good welder like Plastruct Bondene. No worries about superglue failing...

Just need to work out washers and lock washers now...LOL...
