    Re: PRIMER

Plastikote T-35 grey sandable primer seems to be one of the most popular amongst modelers.  I use it all the time.

There was an article in an older SA issue all about primers that you would find interesting and very informative.  I'll find the issue let you know.

*EDIT* - I am unable to find the issue that had the article on Primers.  I'm sure there was one not that long ago, so if anyone else can identify the issue?  sorry....

I use the cheap WM stuff most of the time, it used to be $0.98, I think it's up to $1.08 now.

    Re: PRIMER

If there were something as good as Tamiya's primer and cheaper, I'd already be using it. I know a lot of people like that Plasti-kote stuff, but I find it a bit too heavy. To try to balance out the cost of Tamiya's primer I use Wal-Mart's Colorplace brand gray primer for everything but model bodies. It is only about a dollar for a ten-ounce can. I also sometimes use it as the first primer coat on bodies to be able to see if there are any flaws that need attention, then shoot Tamiya over it. The Colorplace primer goes on in much lighter, thinner coats than other non-hobby specific primers.

    Re: PRIMER

The SA mag article on primer you're looking for is in the October 2007 issue.  It has a Cobra in white primer on the front.  Look on page 26 to find the article.  Check with SA back issues to see if they have a copy you can get.

    Re: PRIMER

I also found an acrylic white primer at Wally World that is inexpensive and I think works better than the gray enamel primer.  I've used it over W-M gray on 3 models.  Its acrylic so it drys fast, covers well, and is more sealed (less porous) than the gray primer.  As soon as I figure out how to post pictures I'll post a few painted but not finished bodies.

I've always used Dupli-Color van & truck primer and have no complaints. I use nothing but lacquer and it has given me zero problems.

Thanks for finding that article Gary!

I haven't had any luck with Duplicolor primers.  I ended up ruining a body.  What's the part number on those?
