Cadillac STS-V and Charger SRT-8 Motors
Are the uptown kits worth getting for the motors? I love the look of both of these cars minus the lambo doors and the huge rims.. both of which can be fixed and make a nice curbside. I want to get a hold of a nice SRT-8 Hemi, a nice Cadillac STS-V motor and a viper V10. I know good sources for the V10 (well are some better than others?) but not sure who makes good kits with the others in. I have hear the uptown kits are basically curbside is that true? I want to use these motors in some hotrods I am doing thats why I ask... Thanks!

Don't bother; the kits don't have engines; just an underhood tray w/one big molded lump for the top of the engine and a couple accessories. Like most cheap diecast models, since these were originally intended to be diecast. SRT-8 engine can be had in Revell Magnum SRT8 (not Uptown), Lindberg Super Bee, and upcoming Revell Challenger SRT-8. Revell makes a good modern Viper. No engines for the Cadillac. Sorry.

Not so fast, Zoom Zoom. If you look inside the Shelby Series 1, there is a Olds Aurora engine.....which the Caddy Northstar is based on. Revell Magnum SRT-8 is a great engine that will be making it's way into a vintage Charger of some sort. Avoid the 5.7 Hemi in the AMT Chrysler 300C though....

But, IIRC, the STS-V engine is supercharged. While you can get a Northstar look-alike, you'll have to fab up an accurate STS-V engine. Gene Beaird, Pearland, Texas

I thought they used the Vette engine in the "V's".

CTS-V is the LS*, I believe the STS-V, XLR-V and SRT-V are all N*s. The SRT-V may be LS-based truck motor, since it is a Tahoe.

slantasaurus:I thought they used the Vette engine in the "V's". Only in the CTS-V; STS-V is Northstar. There are a lot of people out there that think the STS-V is a CTS-V. Big difference. Sure would like a model of the new CTS-V.

All these acronyms are making me woozy. Are they speaking a foreign language? Its the same feeling I see in my wife's eyes when I start talking to a friend about military aircraft, F this number and B that number, etc. lol

agreed I started thinking I was playing hangman for a little while... my wife is going to worry when she walks in and there are drawings of hanging stick figures on pieces of paper all over the room and im in the corner with red eyes and acronyms written all over my face... but this is very informative! Too bad they don't make a nice kit for the new Caddy's. Which leads me to another question then.... What would you recommend for very nice top of the line modern motors (kit wise). I am on a old meets new kick all of a sudden and I have some Deuces, other 30's Fords, Chevy Wagon rod - fenders off convertible, Chevy panel wagon taking the fenders off like a deuce.. all would look great with some great modern power plants in them. I have a nice new corvette motor for one, I am thinking Viper, some sort of modern Shelby Ford Mustang motor, The magnum or Super bee Hemi, and what else?

Yes. I believe the STS-V is front wheel drive, while the CTS are all rear wheel drive. I'd love a kit of the CTS-V as well as the SPEED World Challenge Team Cadillac CTS-V. Heck, if I could get a stock CTS-V I'd get a C6R kit and make one! But alas, no CTS-V!

Uhhhhh STS's went RWD with the '05 Body Redesign, and the last few years they have actually gone All-Wheel Drive.....
As for the Shelby Series I, that is only really correct for the base Block, the Top Half has a Shelby Specific Engine Cover....
Here is what the Top of a Series I engine looks like(Without the Top Half that has the Engine cover molded to it, there isn't an Intake manifold, nor all of the cylinder heads)....

An Actual Aurora Northstar:

What the Revell STS-V should have, but only has the top portion(it is actually a Third Generation of the Northstars):

Honestly the Only Kit to get a constant somewhat detailed version of any 90's and Up Chevy Motor and Transmissions, is the Corvette Kits(Sure there are the F-body and Truck Engines, but they are more specific to their type of Engines, yet the Vette's continued to have the various changes).....
