Re: NEW BOX ART for 70 CORONET

Its my understanding that this kit is a reissue of the interior, engine, chassis and wheel/tires from the mid-late 1990's AMT/Ertl, Superbee, but uses the original, (supposedly more accurate),  circa-1970 MPC kit's body, glass, front & rear bumpers.

Darkrapid: I am not so sure this soon-to-be-released kit is a straight reissue of the mid-1990's AMT/Ertl Superbee kit, (purple build-up on box art).   See my note above; this is information I remember hearing right after this kit was announced back in the late-summer.  Can anyone confirm how this kit might be molded at the kit factory?

markdoo, That body and interior is the original MPC tooling that was reissued in the 90's. It was factory kitbashed with the 69 GTX chassis for those issues. That is why the interior is a one peice tub and has some fit issues with the chassis. This new box sounds like a direct reissue of that kit but with both style stripes. I'm hoping the tooling was restored and maybe some new parts. Those 90's kits have lots of flash to trim up. At least all of mine do.

Lets hope they leave in all the extras you get in the AMT purple version (that appear to originate from the Pro Street '70).
Things like an almost complete Hemi and a narrowed rear end (9"?).

It's my understanding that the narrowed rear is NOT included. I just hope the chassie has been retooled to fit. Now with this said, I don't understand too good so all of this might be wrong. I hope so!!! I'd really like to have the narrowed rear.

No, it does not, but you can get one from PSF Hobbies.  The kit has the stock Coronet hood with twin hood scoops.

Boy talking about breaking pre-conceived notions.  I recall that the painted panel between the loop bumpers was a stand-alone option.  But in looking at my reference sources, including the Galen Govier code book and the Peter Sessler Red Books, there is not a mention of this.

In the original 1970 Coronet full line catalog, all Super Bee, R/T and 500 two doors are shown with the painted panel and the four doors and wagons have the chromed panel.  The 440 2 door hardtop has the painted panel while the 440 2 door sedan as the chromed panel.  But I've seen many 1.1 scale SuperBees with the chromed panel, and Mopar product catalogues of this era are notorious for showing combinations that are changed in production.

So anyway Fury, I give, what is your answer?

Tim, you have e-mail. The correct and documented answer is way too long (but fairly simple) to post within the guidelines of the forum. I'm really surprised that, with all of the other "Chrysler experts" that consistently challenge me, that more replies were not posted. Oh well, its only plastic model cars.Fury3

Thanks Fury for the very comprehensive answer.  No wonder I couldn't find it in my reference material.  I  have sent you two personal email messages in response.  Best regards...TIM BOYD

fury3.  I couldn't answer your question because I thought ALL Coronets had the split bumper appearance, even the el cheapo base models.  I will have to look from now on when I see one of these Gems on the road.  I have this real cool picture of a "classic" (odd styling) Mopar product that I took when waiting for my wife to finish shopping.  I hate shopping.  I love goofy old Iron.
