    AMT/Ertl news

This subject was covered in another thread, but I haven't been able to locate it. The short answer was because AMT (pre-RC2) so badly butchered the body and especially the frame of the '72-'79 Dodge long bed pick making a monster truck (which itself has never been reissued) out of it that it can not be offered as stock with out extensive (read expensive) mods to the molds to return them to stock. Which is too bad really, as I love to get a half dozen of the Dodge and maybe more if they brought back the option of 2wd from the first couple of annual issues. If enough interest is shown maybe, just maybe Tom at Auto world would do an entirely new kit. But in reality I don't see this happening.

hopefully they bring back some of the old van molds and maybe the old 79 dodge long bed pickups.

As for the Dodge vans, I'm still hopeful for a reissue on them. In any and all configurations

That would be nice if Tom at Auto World could do that. I used to subscribe to it. Missed it after RCgreed took over.

Here's thought, just an idle day dream but stranger things have happened...

how about AMT give Okey Spaulding (hope I got the name right) a call and suggest releasing whatever he has in the way of old Jo-Han tooling. AMT get some worthwhile product in the short term and Okey gets funds and distribution help.

Don't forget AMT and Revell used to release kits together with box names on the box in the 50s.

I realise that probably a lot of the Jo-Han tools, the ones that still exist, aren't in the best condition but the '59 Dodge, 56 Olds, 56 Plymouth sedan and '59 Rambler wagon still seem to be in decent shape - they've been out as promos in the last ten years. I'd buy 'em!

Big decal sheets would be nice again too

Like I say just an idle thought.

    Re: AMT/Ertl news

Not to poop on anybodies parade, but the Dodge long-bed from AMT was/is rather dismal.  Instead of having the undercuts that a real pickup bed has, the inside of the bed sloped in at about a 35º angle.  And rather then being indented (like the real thing) the grooves in the sides are raised.  In other words, the inside of the bed is not even close to the real one.  Other pickup kits have more accurate beds.  With this kit, I'd be embarrassed to display it in my collection with out a canopy, or tonneau cover, or something to hide the ridiculous bed.  I hope that if the kit gets retooled they would fix that.  Also, it would be nice to see some kits that are molded with the doors opening.

flawed as it may be, the dodge long bed is highly sought after.  if you are lucky you can get one on the bay for just under $40. Im sure that many here would buy a bunch of even the monster truck kit. I have one of them that I cut down the springs and installed mudder tires. it can be redone as a kool street truck.

I know.  I bought a glue bomb off eBay for around 40.00, only to be disappointed by the lack of quality.  I'm currently working on correcting it.

I like your thinking Cycolac Fan ! I'd also enjoy the bluprinter mag as i missed it when it was in print. Maybe it'll lead to reissues of the blueprinter kits being  reissued. (hint, hint i really wanna blueprinter stang)

Thought I'd bump this thread back up. Anyone heard about the status of all this?

Covered in other threads like this one.

Can't seem to find a way to correctly embed a URL in a post here, but it's in 'General Discussion' - Whats New - AMT and MPC kit releases

Personally I can't wait to get my hands on a few of the 49 Ford kits. This is one of my all time favorite subjects yet I never seemed to get one of these kits.

    Re: AMT/Ertl news

In simple terms if we keep buying kits then we generate a market and demand for them and they'll continue to be produced, but prices might well go up if sales and/or profits drop.
