Textured Paint
Posted by JARRNO88 on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 8:14 AM

Has anyone used textured paint instead of flocking or embossing powder for carpet on any of there models ?  It looks like it would work fine but I don't want to waste my money on buying any of it if it does'nt .  I see that RUSTOLEUM and KRYLON both sell it in different colors and textures, so if anyone has used it and where happy with the the results please let me know what you used.  Thanks, JARRNO88

No info on textured paint. If it is in an aerosol would suggest you commit to buying one and try it out. It cannot be all that expensive. I have heard of model makers sprinkle talcum powder directly onto wet matt paint and shake off the excess to get a textured finish. Another method is if you have an air brush spray the colour from a bit further away so that the spray is partially drying upon contact and creating a speckled finish. This will require a bit of practice to get the spraying distance right for the finish you want.

I haven't used flocking for many years.  Instead, I use embossing powder over thinned white glue.  When that dries, I can paint the carpet any color I want and it looks very realistic.  I find that textured paint looks a little lumpy and a bit too glossy for carpet.

Yup, I've used textured paint several times. Several light mist coats makes pretty decent carpeting, or fewer heavier coats for something more like Rhino Liner

That is the type of texture I want the carpet to be in the my build.  I am going to pick up a can of it this week.  Thanks, JARRNO88
