Why Mr Color
Posted by PlasmoPhil on Tuesday, June 30, 2020 1:28 AM

Hi there,

I tried for the first time Mr Color Super clear III, as a lot of people seem to love it. I used other clear with great result (Gravity color, Tamiya) and with no problem at all...but the gloss super clear III is creating a mess, Im afraid to use it now.

It's like its shooting spider net from my airbrush (Iwata eclipse)! Its all white also, a bit like the mist you can get with matte varnish. At least I was able to correct it by applying it with a brush. Its weird, because if I try again with tamiya clear, everything is fine. So it doesnt seems to be my airbrush.

I have two bottles of super clear III and both do the same thing. Its though to understand how to use it as everything is written in japanese...

I thin it 50-50 with Mr Color thinner 400 (tried 30-70 and 70-30) and try it with Tamiya lacquer thinner retarder (same result)...I also try without thinner to test if it was a reaction with the thinner...same result...all ghostly white and long strings...

I could obviously stick with tamiya (easier to find also in Canada), but i want to understand first what I do wrong.

If someone can educate me on this, Ill appreciate.

My son had the same thing happen with their rattle can clear. He said it was like silly string coming out of the can.

yes exactly, but it does it with the bottle of mr color (mix with thinner for my airbrush), not with a can. Its a bit like its dry before touching the model. I know sometimes a can may act very weirdly because of the temperature, but it first time I see that with my airbrush. Also, i doubt its the temperature, it was perfect and all my other paint/clear work flawlessly.

Use this and you will have no problems.

Pre mix the whole jar, 18ml of super III , 27ml of levelling thinner.
