Suggestions for a tack rag
Posted by JohnnyK on Monday, May 4, 2020 3:38 PM

Does anyone have a suggestion for a tack rag? I bought a tack rag at the hardware store, but it is super sticky and the sticky stuff rubs off on my models. I also tried a micrifiber cloth, but it does not seem to remove all of the dust.

Good question. I've wondered the same thing. I've tried a couple different tack tags with the same results. They were regular body shop tack rags, which is the only ones I know of. I know a lot of guys use and recommend them, but I just make a sticky mess.

I've resorted to using cheap trigger cans of compress air for doing the final dust-off, or sometimes a blow with the airbrush just before laying down paint.

I've never had any success with a tack rag. Maybe it's just me, a lack of knowing how to properly use it perhaps. I too use canned air for a final dusting before primer and paint.

The filthiest paint job I ever did was using a tack rag. I've gone back to using a soft brush, canned air, or air from my airbrush.

I'll need to find some air in the can.

I just bought a can of compressed air at Walgreens.
