Decals and final clear finish
Posted by gpal on Thursday, December 12, 2019 2:33 PM

Hello, If I were to paint my model with Tamiya TS spray cans and put a clear TS13 before decals what should I put over the decals that would be safe and harmless to the decals for the final clear finish?

Thanks in advance, George

You can us TS13 if you do very light coats, but to be safe I use 2K or Testers One Coat.

Testors One Coat is a lacquer and it is chemically hot.  If you use the Testors One Coat clear over decals, be very careful and use light mist coats first.  Then keep adding mist coats until you have good coverage.

Tamiya TS-13 Gloss Clear is an acrylic lacquer which means that it is not as chemically hot as Testors.  Just be very careful when you do use it.  Make sure your decals dry completely for several days before you clearcoat them.

Hey Mr Mike, thank you for sharing your model wisdom with me. How would you airbrush Future Floor Finish on Tamiya Ts paints or do you ever do the Future?

Thanks Again

I have never used Future for a clearcoat.  I would guess that you would airbrush it like any other clearcoat.  Start with mist coats and work your way to wet coats.  But, I'm only guessing...
