Need Advice on Paint job
Posted by DDD on Wednesday, June 26, 2019 6:32 PM

I painted this Chevy Nova with Aztek acrylic and sanded it with 2500,3000,5000. and cross hatched the sanding the best I could. My question is this good enough to clear coat? or will that rough texture look show though the clear coat. The model feels real smooth and the last model I tried to sand ( same texture in pic) what looks to be still rough as in not the same color texture through out the car I kept sanding through. will the clear coat fill in all the gaps? or do I need to sand it more and what should it look like before it's ready for clear coat? Thanks for any advice.

A quick test is to put clean water on it to simulate the effect of a clear coat. I do it all the time. No effect on subsequent paint but it gives you a good idea of what it's going to look like with clear on it. Sometimes it helps to put a drop of Dawn dishwashing liquid in it to get it to "sheet" for a moment on the panel. I've not used the acrylics for body color so I can't help you there. Good luck!  Smile
