Acrylic Paint and thinners
Posted by les.61 on Friday, April 26, 2019 8:54 PM

Well just finished pulling the airbrush to pieces and cleaning it as it has gunk in it. I think it was from the last mixture of paint.

So was wondering what people use as thinners for the following paints.

Tamyia, Italeri, Humbrol.

Can you mix different brands of paint and thinners?

Isopropyl alcohol works well with pigments but did not seem to work too well with Italeri Matt Acrylic Paint but worked fine with Tamiya Matt Acrylic.

Is there a chart anywhere showing paints and thinner aletrnative?

Many thanks Sad

Sorry I can't help with Italeri and Humbrol but for Tamiya I use "MR Color Leveling Thinner". I know its a lacquer but it works great with Tamiya, many people use it.

it seems that quite a few folks use windshield washer fluid (the plain blue stuff, mind you) to thin various acrylic paints.  I have no experience with it as I use enamels, but it might be worth your while to try.  I hope that helps.
