Finally got around to testing Tamiya Vinyl Masking Tape...

It comes in different widths, smaller than their paper masking tape, i.e. 2mm, 3mm and 5mm widths

Worked pretty well on my Hobbycraft Bluenose schooner's waterline. Model enamel paint, and I scored the red side before peeling off, just to be safe, as it had dried for months and should have been very hard by now (the black was still relatively soft after a day or too - I'm still hemming and hawing about getting a dehydrator)

Thanks for the info on the tape. I bought a couple rolls of this stuff last year, but have yet to give it a try. Looks like it should be good stuff.
