Tamiya Metalic Acrylic Paints
Posted by Calmo2 on Friday, September 8, 2017 8:01 PM

Hi guys and gals; I need some advice! I have airbrushed Tamiya acrylics before but not their metalics. Do I thin them the same way and what air pressure should I use, and what kind or color should I use for a primer? I have heard that you should use black primer for metalics or clears. Has anyone out there used Tamiya clear as a clear coat and do you thin it to airbrush it ? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks George.

Just had anouther thought! Do anyone know if you can mix regular Tamiya acrylic colors in with their metalic colors? I want to change the color of the metalic a little to match the color of my friends harley I am building for him. Thanks again George.

There are questions that can be answered here by others, and there are questions that must be answered by you through experimenting and practice

To me your questions fit into the last catagory. We all need to learn by doing and making mistakes that we learn from. It's part of the hobby and life. Not everything can be shown or taught.

Best of luck. I'm sure you will find your answers with patience Thumbs Up.

Thanks Treehugger Dave. I think I am going to try and experiment on white plastic spoons. I just thought maybe someone out there might have done the things I was asking about. I have heard that some guys thin the metalics 1 to 1 because the metalics tend to plug up the needle. I guess I will find out! Thanks again.
