Decals over clear coat?
Posted by Calmo2 on Wednesday, May 03, 2017 7:41 PM

Hello; Lately I have been using "Future" as a clear coat, and now I am wondering if I should clear coat first befor I put the decals on? I was going to use "Microscale Micro Set" to put the decals on but was starting to wonder if it would affect the Future clear coat! I also have Tamiya X-22 Clear but some people say it should not be used as a clear coat!! I used Tamiya acrylic paint to paint the model. Unfortunatley these decals are for a 1970 GTO Judge and the cheeck decals are 3 decals,  one over top of the other. Any help with this would be appreciated. Thanks. George.

I don't use my airbrush that much, and I typically use rattle cans for painting bodies. But I use X-22 clear over plenty of the rest of the parts, and it's never reacted badly to any kind of paint. I can't imagine why someone would tell you not to use a Tamiya clear, over a Tamiya paint. Of course, you can test it first. Plastic spoons are cheap, and if you want to be absolutely sure it'll work, use some scrap sprue, or some spare parts from the same kit. Same box, same plastic. Smile, Wink & Grin

Thanks Smellyfatdude; I know the X-22 won't affect the paint it is just that I heard that you should just used it to mix with the Tamiya paint to give it a better shine! I was wondering if the Micro Set would affect the future if I clear coat the model first before I put the decals on? Thanks again. George.
