Base coat for gold
Posted by The Firefighting Modeler on Tuesday, March 24, 2020 6:28 PM

I'm planning to use gold spray paint and I have never tried this color before. Is there a base coat I should use or will standard gray primer be okay?

Standard primer should be fine. Gold has excellent coverage properties. Using white or black may have some effect, but overall the stuff is pretty solid.

Grey primer is the standard for gold. Red oxide works well too. For a paler, muted gold like Aztec, use the white. For brighter gold with more sparkle, use the black.

My favorite color is clear. I am also ambidexterous, I can screw up equally well with either hand. I am 53 years old and been building for most of that time. :)
