NEW DIORAMA PLANS
Posted by BEDLAM on Sunday, February 21, 2016 4:32 PM

Ok here are the preliminary plans for my 40s style Service Station/ garage.... I still need to do the other 3 side elevations..... The area in front of the store room is going to have a pick up/ recovery truck sitting there.. There is going to be a single pump stand ( attempting to do a scratch build) out in front of the shop...... I have various work shop tools already purchased and American Diorama figures waiting to be placed..... I'm hoping this will go as planned and look good... Oh and the roof will be either removable or hinged to be able to see inside....... I hope you all like the basics...... 40s garage diorama

Thanks Peanut.... Yeah the plan is the hardest... You find stuff that don't work then adjust... Better than adjusting on the actual model... Not that there might be adjustments on the model.... I think I'll have at least 3 more nights getting the blueprints done..... Then it's fabrication time...... Between this and my photography ( landscape and wildlife ) I think I'm going to be a busy boy......

Looking forward to more updates on this one.  I have always enjoyed watching other people build these works of art; my mind is not quite creative enough to build one.

I build models because I can't afford the real thing!

Thanks Tarheel..... This is going to be my first diorama...... Just hoping it's going to live up to my expectations..... You know what they say though.... " GO BIG OR GO HOME" if this one goes OK I have some ideas for a Drive in burger joint in the future....

Looks like that will be a fun project to watch. Mike

Another piece of advice....Keep everything to scale. Nothing is worse than seeing a dio with a picture handing on the wall when in reality it woild be 6ftx 6ft in 1:1 size. I'll too will being viewing your progress...Good Luck

Ok these are the first 4 frames built ( main garage area) they need to be skinned front and back with 0.060 styrene sheet ( just like sheet rock but on a smaller scale) the frames are surprisingly strong though...

Ok I have the main garage walls almost finished...... Framed, skinned back and front, all windows and door ways cut.... I just need to sand and clean them up a bit.....

Top to bottom.... Right hand side wall, left hand side wall rear wall and front wall... I still need to construct the office/shop walls and the store room walls.... But it seems to be heading in the right direction......

Ok last one for tonight...... In this one I'm trying to depict the illusion of Exhaust marks on the wall from cars being worked on over the years..... Sorry for the bad images... Bad light and the late hour.....
