Tamiya 1/6 Africa Twin
Posted by Wild Bill 426 on Sunday, June 25, 2017 9:48 PM

I just started building this new kit this weekend.  I got the operating chain set; this is NOT for the weak!  But it is SO cool.  I have the basic motor done;very typical Tamiya molding and fit, meaning perfect; also great instructions since there are so many unique facets to this kit. I will try to post some build photos soon.  I am using the Tamiya spray paints to do this build.

I have just seen the add on the back of my latest SA mag for that kit and it sure looks like a very cool bike. I can't wait to see how your build goes.

I added Tamiya's operating chain to their old 1/12 Honda RC166 race bike. Built up from individual pins, rollers and photoetched side links. It was a surprisingly easy and painless job; I managed it in about 4 hours on a Saturday morning. The jigs and instructions are great. I haven't seen the chain kit for the Africa twin but I imagine it is very similar.

I also added the RC166's wheel kit, which builds up real metal spoked wheels from individual spokes and nipples. Again, the jigs and instructions made it a very straightforward job.

That Africa twin looks fantastic! Wish it was in my price range.
