Freedom Chopper Finished
Posted by mcmainstribe on Thursday, July 28, 2016 10:26 PM

Just started this.  FIrst step was to modify the forks to allow them to be installed after the frame is painted.  I removed the mounting pins from the forks and drilled it all out out to accept a nail.  Rims and tires are from a Revell snaptite Springer softail.

Plan is to paint it Root Beer Brown for a very 70's vibe.

BTW, does anypone know if this is the same kit as the Monogram Grim Reaper that I see was announced to be reissued?  The two appear to be the same.

I will, I've never documented one of my builds in progress on here before. Be forwarned however that my progress will be slow..

Hi Larry,

Yes I believe it is the Tom Daniel Grim Reaper. It was originally released in 1974. I don't recall seeing it in the Revell chopper line before that. I have never seen any box art of it prior.

When I discovered it was the same last year, I got a good deal on a sealed Freedom Chopper. Who knew they would re-release it.  haha

It has very distinct parts, such as square (?) forktubes, and the sissy bar, pipes, seat, rear fender.

I'm a MC builder and Tom Daniel collector (builder) so this was a welcome edition. The Freedom Choppers are very pricy, so the re-release is a welcome sight for TD & MC enthusiasts.

Hope this helps.

Yours looks good mocked up. And I like the color choice. Looking forward to seeing more progress.

And the funny thing is this is not the first reissue of this kit as the Freedom Chopper in Revells line, but the inside of the rear fender has the words Monogram 1974 still very visible.

Thanks for the kind words.  I hope to get some more work done to it this weekend. I think i might be about ready for primer and hopefully paint.

I am still going to work on this.  Life has sort of sidelined building for awhile as I am buying a house, moving and dealing with not one but both of our vehicles deciding to break down one right after the other.  Move-in is this Friday and then comes the unpacking, but hopefully by mid December I can be back at a bench of some sort and continue on with this bike.
