1:18 Tiki Termite FINISHED!!!
Posted by Hog on Friday, March 14, 2014 3:58 AM

Hi all,

This is my first bike.  I got a Maisto 1:18 Harley 'cause I kept seeing the Jimmy Flintstone Tiki Termite and had to build one.

I am taking a quick break from my AMT 1967 Shelby build here:

http://cs.scaleautomag.com/sca/modeling_subjects/f/29/t/117501.aspx

I kept the motor and front wheel and part of the forks.  I cut the forks shorter and cut off the handle bars and made a shorter one out of wire and drilled out the grips and put them on.

Here is the start.  The pipes are out of copper wire and balsa, which I will seal and paint chrome.

Here is what the left over parts.

I think I'm ready to shoot paint tomorrow.

After that I'll add all the fiddly bits.

I ended up making my own forks and scratched out a tranny, the one that came with the toy was a big refrigerator looking boxy thingy.

I stretched the rear tire over the front rim 'cause I think I like the fatter tire up front.  For the rear tire I made a monster 300 fatty tire.  I only made half of it though 'cause you can only see part of it, ha ha.

Still debating but I think I am going to make a Hawaiian shirt gas tank, lime green with the woody panels and then flowers on the tank.  I know, I'm crazy...

Starting color.  The Dang motor mounts gave me the most fits on how to do them.  That's what held me up so long.

Color on bike and alclad on lower half of motor, primary cover and forks.  The bottom of the forks will be green also.

Paints still too tacky.  This time of year will prolly take 3 or 4 days before I can handle it.  Did kinda prop some things up.

I'm moving slow hadn't had much time to work on this.  I'm playing around with wire and braid seeing if I can make the throttle cables and front brake line.  I'm stuck making a banjo fitting for the front caliper.

in the background on my PC is dream machines of texas.  I don't have a bike and I found this site.  They sell bikes and have some good close up pics of their bikes.

Regards,

Hog

Got the shifter, oil lines, spark plug wires and combo speedo/gas cap done.

The wood is propped up as is the exhaust.

Almost done.

Almost AGAIN!, lol.

Drilled out the wood and inserted .025 rod, I still have to use some sort of glue to hold the wood on the compound curves and trim the .025 rod flush.  I made a seat out of bondo, .030 strip for piping and artists acrylic paint.  I drilled out the seat and stitched in some green thread.  I think all that's left is right side foot peg/brake, tail lights and head light.
