'62 Pontiac Catalina AMT pre-painted
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, January 21, 2004 9:32 AM
Has anyone out there already built this pre-painted model? My question is - the body and the hood have a strange silvered or foggy finish over the red color. I am not sure whether it really should be like that (even the pictures of the model on the box show it), but the floor pan, which is finished in same red color, is just red. To me it seems like final gloss coat applied by AMT dried the way it created these foggy areas on the body. If you experienced this, have you dealt with that - have you used sand paper, micro-mesh or polishing tools to restore the uniform red finish?

The kit you refer to is supposed to have the silver over the red on the body. It's a custom paint job similar to some 50's paint jobs. I've built this one, it polishes up nicely.

I've got the plastic '62 lowrider version on the bench now. Building two Pontiacs at the same time. Plus the Eclipse. The lowrider version has a lot of opportunity to it. Don't judge that kit by it's cover. If you can get over the button tucked interior...it could be a great kit for some wild paint jobs. I am looking at least a two tone job of Panther Pink and Insignia Red with some squirrely stuff on the rocker panels. It might be a circus freak by the time I am done with it!

Thank you for your response. I was not sure about the paint job as I have never seen it before. I agree with you, it really is a beautiful kit!
