1962 Pontiac Catalina WIP - Finished - Outdoor Pics!
Posted by modelcarjr on Friday, November 23, 2018 4:27 PM

Here's a good one! I built this one already a couple of years ago! Its in a different box now titled Polyglass Gasser II but I didn't realize it when I bought it. I tried to start a new photo album but the website told me there was already an album by that name. So I found it and realized I have already built it (see last photo)!

Anyway, I guess I'll build it again! I looked at the color chip website and the Bamboo Cream looks a lot like a can of Phoenician Yellow that I have on hand. So I painted it this afternoon. I have a bit of orange peel in the top and trunk (hood came out fine) so I am going to sand it out a bit with the polishing cloths before I add the clear. Thanks for looking! Cool

I still have my '62 AMT ragtop model; bright yellow and black, which I 'restored' and clearcoated with PPG 661.  I believe this (or the '63 kits) had the Royal Pontiac drag racer decal sheets; I sure wish I could find those again!  I put mine on a version I built of the '63 Tempest LeMans AMT ragtop (all I could find then) that I bult as a 2x4 421 "SD" or "Powershift" A/Fx racer - or the Goldsmith/Nichols Daytona Challege winner - back then.  That Bonneville kit was one source for a 2x4 manifold (though the carbs were crude!!) for 389, 421.

As we had a new Catalina that year, but I still prefer the '61. Oh well...

Thanks, High Octane and Wick! I appreciate your comments! Wick, this kit does not contain the Royal Pontiac drag race decals.

Thanks, Prowler! I appreciate your comment! Let me know where your 66 Chevy is posted!

Painted some other parts today and cleared the body after I rubbed out the orange peel in the top and trunk. Looks pretty good so I'll only have to rub it out a bit. Thanks for looking! Cool

Had a couple problems with paint seeping into the seat crack but touched up with a brush. Colors are Krylon Almond and Carmel Latte and the dark color is the Testors root beer. Thanks for looking! Cool

Beautiful interior paint, really like the color combination.  That is one of the hold-ups on my Catalina, all that masking gets really tedious.

I build models because I can't afford the real thing!

Gotta be one of the most difficult interiors to do. I like those colors.

Feelings are like scents: The more they are analyzed, the worse they smell.

I remember the red one, though I can't say I'll mind watching you build another. Love the color, and your interior looks great, already! Thumbs Up

Thanks, Rick, Mike, Prowler and SFD! I appreciate your comments! Yes, the taping is difficult and I like to stretch it over a few days in order to let paint dry so I don't pull paint off with the tape. So it takes 3 days and then I still need to touch up with a brush due to bleed-throughs or rough edges. But it keeps me busy! Thanks for looking! Cool

Thanks, Ford and Buick! I appreciate your comments!

I got up early this morning since my wife went to work today early and I worked on the dash. Foiled the speedo and the Catalina lettering and then flowed on some blackwash. Foiled the knobs and used the Molotow pen on the steering column collar. The bottom of the dash should be the darker color but I like it better this way.

Also I reversed some colors in the interior; the main color on the doors and the floor. I intended this one to be Factory Stock but there aren't any decals for the Catalina script for the front fender and not even the Pontiac badge for the trunk. So I am going to modify the build to use the custom grill and also lower the stance. Sorry if I have posted in the wrong category. Thanks for looking! Cool

I haven't posted in a few days but I have finished assembly of the engine, chassis, engine bay and interior. I installed plug wires and made a coil to mount on the firewall. The fuel line plumbing is in the kit and installed well. I may also add heater hoses.  Windows and final assembly next. Thanks for looking! Cool

I remember now that the reason I bought this kit is for the tires. There are three sets of tires; The whitewall insert type tires that I am using for this build, a set of Goodyear Polyglas CWT red line tires and a set of Goodyear L60-15 pad printed white letter tires. So I'll have two sets of tires for future builds.

I am just about finished with this one and I've had to persuade the parts to come together a bit.

So, I am almost done! Added the heater hoses and air cleaners to the engine compartment and installed the custom grill and front bumper. I used he lowered suspension pieces and may add the lake pipes. Just headlight lenses, taillights, rear bumper and license plates to install and it will be complete! Thanks for looking! Cool

Beautiful! Looks like you just toss a kit in the air, and it falls on your bench perfectly painted and assembled!
