Picked up this kit up a couple of months ago so I thought I would get it started while I'm waiting on the weather to cooperate. No mold lines so I washed it and glued on the front bumper/grill unit and two side pieces. I can still get the frame in this way and only have to glue on the rear bumper after paint. Drilled out the holes for the rear spoiler. Once I have a chance to paint I think I will do it in reverse like an 84 - silver on top and black on the bottom. Looks like I have a busy set of decals too! Thanks for looking! Cool

Looking forward to it. There are fine mold lines on the body. tops of front and rear fenders, top of c pillar on roof.

Great minds think alike!  I have the same kit and the same idea for building it.  Silver on the top and black on the bottom, plus I bought the P/E set from Model Car Garage.

Prowler, thanks for the tip! I did find a fine line on the front fenders and the horizontal roof line at the C pillars was a little uneven, like it came out of the mold uneven. Couldn't find anything on the rear fenders.  

MrMike, aside from changing the colors, I just going to go with the decals and build it box stock.

I have made some progress as the weather has changed for the better! Taped off the body and painted the black on the bottom and in the engine compartment. Before I painted the black in the engine compartment I sprayed the battery top red and the tanks white. The I taped them off and painted the black. Two coats of flat black and then two coats of clear on the bottom of the body and just a light spray of clear in the engine compartment. I also painted both colors on the rear bumper Tamiya Gloss Aluminum on top and flat black on the bottom. I let it dry and then add two coats of clear. I'll rub out the edge a bit tomorrow and then paint the body and other pieces aluminum and clear. Thanks for looking! Cool

Paint is done on the body and I'm rubbing it out. I looked at interior pictures for 83 and 84 Hurst Olds and almost all the 84s that I saw had red interiors. The instructions for this kit indicate that the interior should be painted flat medium magenta. I checked my paint supply and I don't have that color! So I'll just have to settle for flame red and flat it out with dullcote. Thanks for looking! Cool

I am building one of these also right now. Please share any issues you may have as you go along. I assume you have more little bottles of paint than Carter has Liver Pills at this point?  I keep telling myself, "I won't buy any more different colors until I use up my stash".........and then I buy another color 'cause I NEED it! lol

Mike, I have a lot if little bottles but mainly use rattle cans, Testors, Tamiya and Krylon. 

McLovin, that's good to know, so now I will have an 83 with an 84 color scheme! 

I haven't had any problems that haven't been of my own making yet. The dash is in oven cleaner as I screwed up the paint. The windows mount from the outside and the rear window was a little ill-fitting but with a little sanding it worked out. I first used a black sharpie to outline the inside of the windshield and the back window. I also blackened the edge of the glass and then shaded the top of the windshield with Tamiya Smoke. Next, I'll add the foil for the outer trim now that the windows are in. 

The interior chrome trim is not exactly right but I couldn't do the wood grain and had to improvise in this scale. The interior is not as shiny as it looks in the picture. Thanks for looking! Cool

Finished installing the window and added the foil on the window trim. Hard to see in the pictures due to the silver body. Also retrieved the dash from the oven cleaner and re-painted. I detailed it a bit with black, the Molotow chrome pen and some foil. Starting engine assembly now. Thanks for looking! Cool

Interior is in, chassis is finished and its on wheels! No problems to this point and it went together fairly easily. The engine compartment is not done yeat but I think it will look fairly busy even without and wiring or other detail. The rear bumper is not glued on yet but the fit is great! The hood also fits better than most and I did spend some time snding down the edges to make sure it fits after paint. So now I'll finish attaching several parts and get ready to spend about 8 hours on decals. There are many decals and with a warning in the instructions that decals overlap. Time for a new blade in the knife for cutting wet decals! Thanks for looking! Cool

Finished the engine compartment and have the decals on one side.  The decals are going on OK. Decals over the wheel openings are always the most difficult to me. These seem to make it look more slab-sided, like a driving outline.  Thanks for looking! Cool

Well, I was hoping I could reference your build to see exactly where to locate the rad hose and the air intake hose but you haven't done that yet. I figured it out but they sure don't give you an obvious location point for them.  All these finishing details slow the process down so much, it sure tests my patience. The decals are going down well for you?

Thanks, Mike! Yes, the locations of both hoses are hard to determine. I had to shorten my radiator hose as it was too long for some reason. The decals went on relatively smoothly. A couple of quirks. The two long decals (19 & 21) that run at the beltline meet just below the side mirror holes. The cut is at an angle but it is the wrong angle so they overlap a bit but because it is under the mirror its not noticeable. Also the decal on the front that connects to each side (38) seemed to me to be too big vertically so I cut the decal to eliminate the black portion at the bottom of the decal and only left the red and silver. The front wheel opening decal is too long at the quarter panel so that also had to be shortened a bit. I also didn't use the small, white oldsmobile decal for the left front bumper because you wouldn't see it on the silver.

Pinstriping decals are hard to get straight but yours look perfect. These are still a good looking car in this era even. I got my hoses in place too, despite the lack of clear placement. I will be posting pics pretty soon. I gotta say, I love how the body fit in place on the chassis and I didn't even need glue! Tight squeeze, but positive fit. Look forward to seeing you next build.

Thanks, Mike! Yes, I agree the fit of the body on the chassis and the rear bumper attaching was perfect! The pinstriping decals are more difficult for me especially over the wheel openings and mine are not perfect. The first one I put on over the left rear wheel opening looked like it had too much silver lip in the rear of the wheel compared to the front of the wheel. I had trouble getting the corners square and perhaps the decal moved without me noticing. But once it was dry I couldn't fix it. So I took a black sharpie and evened out the silver edge by applying black to the outer edge.  Looks a lot better to me and you can't tell I cheated! I paid more attention to the other three and they came out fine! Thanks for looking! Cool

Wow!  Jr, that looks great in that color combo, just as I had envisioned it.  I'll get mine started soon and I may do a story for it, too.  I had a story written for it, until my hard drive crashed and I lost everything!  I also got the PE set from Model Car Garage.
