Hidden Figures 57 Chevy 4-Door
Posted by spencer1984 on Tuesday, January 10, 2017 7:10 PM

I don't do a whole lot of '50s cars, but this seemed like a fun project so I'm giving it a shot. I'm using AMT's #638, sadly missing the custom parts from earlier releases but still buildable:

The 4-door body is from Steve at STAR Models, generally pretty good but still has a flatter hardtop roof.  I'm fixing that by adding a skim of Bondo to round it off a little:

I'm nearly done with the chassis. Most of it is box stock, the biggest change being that I replaced the kit's manual transmission with a Powerglide I had in my parts box (necessitating a new driveshaft to go with it). I also replaced the poorly-molded starter and oil filter with scratchbuilt pieces, and shortened the wheel stubs so they'd fit inside the fenders a little better:

I'm going with Tamiya TS60 Pearl Green with a white top. I did a test shot of it on the wheels, and it looks pretty close to the "1950s Green" I want

Thanks guys!  Got some more done on the engine and interior, plus a first coat of primer on the roof:
