1997 Ford Crown Victoria PI P71!
Posted by jhinfaith on Wednesday, September 25, 2019 5:12 PM

Greetings and blessings! Big Smile So my next build is a 1997 Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor P71 SnapTite Build-&-Play model kit manufactured by Revell, and I built this box stock back when I first brought it in around 2014. It looked good then, but that's because I had no necessary model kit supplies to work with 'til recently. So now I painted this Crown Vic black and white and bare-metal-foiled the chrome trims, detailed the window frames in flat black paint and Sharpie markers, and also bare-metaled the wheels as well since those black rims don't look good on a Crown Vic like this. I also took the pushbumper rambar from the Revell SnapTite Ford Expedition SSV Police model kit and glued it to the front bumper of the Crown Vic and also took the tall police radio antenna from the AMT Ertl Rescue 911 Police Car kit and glued that to the top of the trunk lid of this one! Also took the leftover Rescue 911 Police Car Kit decals and applied them to this one! Even when bare-metal-folied, the rims still ain't doin' justice because it's too big, it looked like it was made in the scales of the 2015 Mustang GT rims (also made by Revell as a SnapTite Build-&-Play kit). Maybe if I can get a Lindberg kit version of the Crown Vic, then I could perhaps use the wheels and tires from that one and add it to this one. Anyways, in the meantime, enjoy the pics of this classic american police car and be blessed!

Nice to see that kit get some love and attention!  I built (painted) a few of the Lindbergs for a Revell Car Hauler load project but just couldn't outlay the cash for the Revell one - wonder if it's much different, just the wheels maybe?

I'm also trying to update one to the metal rear quarter windows, but the re-scribing is killing me!

Thanks for the comments Spencer1984 and hct728!

So, I slightly updated this model, now it has Ford blue oval logo and "Crown Victoria" badging decals from the Lindberg Kit version of the Crown Vic. The dash, wheels and tires, and side mirrors were taken from the Lindberg kit version and slightly modified to fit the CV buckets of the Revell kit version, also the lightbar was taken from the AMT's Rescue 911 Ford Taurus Police Car kit. The "POLICE" word decals that I used on this model are made by Chimneyville Police Decals and added a aftermarket police spotlight made specifically for 1/24 and 1/25 models, and boy it fits like a glove! :D

Yeah I know, right! Almost in several attempts I wasted some Bare-Metal foil 'cause it was continuously peeling and cracking off. Finally got it on this one, though!

Oh, and hct728, to answer your question, the difference bettween the Lindberg and Revell versions of the Crown Vic are not that much, although the Revell version has wheels that are centered correctly, detailed gas tank door, interior with the seats and center console already welded in, and somewhat softer window lines, which made it difficult to bare-metal foil the chrome to this one.

So I finally decided to build a Lindberg version of the 1997 Crown Vic kit, this time in the Dallas, TX Police paint scheme...
