Audi R8 Mountain Bike Carrier

This is the Revell kit version. Other than the twisted, buckled floor, front and rear windows buckled, and side windows too long and too high and oh yes trying to fit the body over the interior, was nigh on impossible. I had to shave down the door panels, take off the dash and shave off the mounting to the floor and about a 1/4" round the top of the dash as it touched the body without the windows in!

With the engine surround there is a window panel at the back of the seats, this was also far too high and wide so shaved that down too! And a few other problems, too many to count!

Anyway here's the finished article.........................

The bikes, roof bars and top box come from a Fujimi kit. The decals are a Dot Camo from Scale Motorsport. The rear bike rack is scratch built.

Looks great NOW.......Whistling I like the decals & added parts Patrick .

I had the same problems with my R8 kit (yes , I actually built an Audi Indifferent OMG easy Spen!!)

It sat for ages unfinished , the windscreen made me tear my hair out & the fit was ..dire . Zip it!

Might do it ala " Will Smith / I Robot movie " or even Rat it !! When I can be bothered !

Saw some concepts , here's the RSQ - I robot car ( Looks good in black too !)

Here's a concept art - I love the roofline ...

And a Hot Rod Audi one just for giggles ! Some " Urban" design . Needs an R8 up front with lakepipes if you ask me Mischief

Thanks Spencer. Yes I looked at so many concepts, race cars, Liberty Walk modded R8's and when I opened the kit and tried to dry fit a few parts I was amazed just how bad it was. The windscreen as you say was nearly flat so how to mount that in an area that is curved both across and down! The rear screen was warped and the hatch that it had to sit in was bent the opposite way! But in the end it opens and shuts (as long as I take the bike off the rack).

Looks really good, but not the sort of car I expect to find at the trail with mountain biikes on it.

Too many models to build in a lifetime.

Being a mountainbiker myself...it is just a little fancier than my AWD Subaru Imprezza Smile

Ah Ergo Proxy, that's modelmaking imagination! Both my son's are involved with the Mountain bike scene, the eldest in Canada, downhill, and the youngest here in the UK cross-country. The youngest an ex-BMX Champ! Matt (UK) has a BMW estate car and puts the bike in the back and Mark has 3 cars but uses a Golf VR6 to carry his and his wife's.

Or my VW's

Or my McLaren, but that's a surfers car..

They sometimes come up with pics of MBK rider's cars, Porsche, Jaguar, Bentley(!) and various other exotics plus the vans and Range Rovers.

I'm also a mountain biker. I carry mine on the back of a Lexus CT200h. But I really see all sorts of cars carrying mountain bikes, not just Jeeps and pickup trucks.

Too many models to build in a lifetime.
