I quite like this version Nige . I've never been a big Gorge Barris show car fan (I can imagine the gasps now LOL) , so this comic book version -into a model looks about right to me !

Looking good.

Funny, I always thought the batmobile was black, having watched as a child on black and white TV.

I guess that's my cue Laugh

Yes, this kit is a comic book evolution of the TV car.  The Barris design...

...(along with just about everything else in the show) proved so popular that the comic books quickly followed suit.  The TV-inspired Batmobile went through a few artistic variants, including this one Frank Springer drew for Detective #377:

Licensing being what it was, Johnny Lightning/Polar Lights could only reproduce comic book Batmobiles, so they likely settled on this one being close enough that the general public would recognize it, but distinct enough to keep the lawyers happy.

Danbury Mint had a similar problem; they tried to do a TV car and got as far as promotional material, but in the end had to alter the design enough so that it couldn't be considered the TV car.  They ended up with this:

Well, sort of. They inadvertently came up with a design that looked fairly close to what Ross Andru drew for the cover of Batman #330, so I removed the figures and added the door emblems to bring it the rest of the way.

Corgi also released a version of the car in 1/24, but the less said about it the better...

At first I was going to use this bonnet..

But then I decided to make a cardboard template..

Once I had the rough shape I transferred it to plastic card, and added a hood scoop.

I will tidy it up and spray it tonight.
