Scale Racing Car Chassis Build From Scratch
Posted by Captain Freedom on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 11:18 AM

Plan is to build two chassis.

Chassis #1

Longitudinal leafsprings at all four corners.

Like early automobiles.

Chassis #2

Kurtis style.

In facing link suspension.

Problem there is where does gas tank go?

I sure don't want it:

Passenger seat location.

Behind seat. Pickup truck style.

Pontons. Outrigger tanks between wheels each side.

Will think of something.

Maybe this will make it clearer.

I would call these 'In-facing' links or arms.

Sprint cars have 'Out facing' ones.

Figured out a couple things.

'Build/plan to the wheelbase not the overall length'.

Going to put the seating area/passenger compartment bulkhead all the way

back against the rear axle travel space.

Starting out with a 90" wheelbase. 7' 6".

Lay that out and see if everything fits.

Pointing towards 1/8 scale.

12' overall length equals 18" model.

1/4 scale would be too big. May be okay for final model.
