Streamline Mach 5 Resin Build
Posted by Karlito on Sunday, June 12, 2016 7:58 PM

Continuing/moving my build from the general discussion section.

Update: Finally got around to painting the car! Next step will be laying down the decals and applying the clear coat. It is getting really close and the end is in sight!
I was also able to add some new models to my collection that I hope to start on soon.

Looking great, nice work! That's an awesome collection of Speed Racer kits, congrats! I have the GRX, but never had any luck getting a Shooting Star...I have a feeling I'm going to have to do it the hard way, with a Chaparral and a lot of body work :)

Thanks for the compliment Spencer.

Do you have any pictures of the GRX? I would love to see it completed.

Mine's in the same condition as yours at the moment...I was hoping to build it, the Mach V, and the Shooting Star together, so I haven't started on any of them yet.

Finished the wheels, chassis, and 95% of the interior. Only thing left is the graphics, and I'm currently waiting on fine line tape I ordered to lay them out.

Very nice Karlito, your Mach 5 looks great. I also have a resin Mach 5 in working progress.

The Sooting Star I finished years ago, both models are from a brazilian manufacturer (Enigma models).

Wow Gustavo, that looks awesome! The kit appears very similar to the Streamline version with the exception of the wheels and decals.

Do you have any close up pictures of the dash? I noticed you also changed the pattern on the seats. Did you use seats from a different kit or reshape the ones provided?

Karlito, except for the body and windshield, all other pieces are from my spare parts also the decals are custom made.

Very nice work!

Shooting Star is the next car I am starting, so it's nice to see how it can look.

Mach is almost finished: need to finish the cut and buff on the body, paint the wheel wells/interior and complete final assembly

Small update: I ended up having to repaint the car.. Painting the graphics ended up being a complete failure. Luckily the other Mach 5 kit had a spare set of decals that I was able to use. It was nerve racking laying them down and clearing over 20+ year old decals, but thankfully they held up!

Rear end before any sanding/polishing.

After the 1st stage of compound. There is a few spots I still need to go over with again with paper before I can move to the next stage of compound and sealant.

Very nicely done. Perhaps the nicest I've seen this kit built.

Thanks for the kind words guys! It was a definitely a learning curve, and I'm going to do a few things differently when I build the version for myself.

Love it. Perfect stance, great looking wheels and an awesome white paint job. Kudos on a fine build.
