fender/bedside flares
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, February 21, 2004 6:32 PM
this is more directed to the offroad guys but anyone can help. i was wondering what you guys do for fender flares? i was planning on using sheet styrene and cutting out the main parts and just glueing them but that would give too much of a sharp angle on everything, unlike the smooth, gentle curves its supposed to have.

these are just some reference pics
fenders:

these show an ivan flare which includes a hood but you get the picture

You may have to try to vacuum form them?
I don't know how myself?
Or cast out of resin.
Dave Baldwin does some trick stuff, but I am not sure how he accomplishes it?
Check out the desert racing modelers group on yahoo.
Go to prerunners.com and look in the exhibit hall for some of daves work, also on the yahoo group there are lots of photos you may be able to get ideas from.
I too would like to figure out those fenders?
Have you tried two like kits and widening with the extra kits fenders?
Good Luck!

I try and use pre-shaped stuff as mush as I can, that and lots of Bondo and mold it into the shape I'm looking for .
For rear fenders I just take the stock fender trim it up to the look i'm looking for then bend the fenders out , using my fingers and doing little bends at a time but doing it many times till I get the flare that I like. Then if needed I come back over the fender with "more" bondo and make the fender look like it's deeper inside then it appears.
