Looks Awesome , Mike. Next time can you reduce the size of the pictures. It takes them forever to download on my slow computer.

I have been assembling the Land Rover Series III this afternoon.  I got the hood mounted on its hinge, the interior has been assembled and I has all, if not, most all of the parts painted and ready to go.  The Tamiya Gloss Coat is not too shiny which is what I was hoping for.  Assembly so far has been a breeze...no surprises!

More Land Rover to come...

I clearcoated the Land Rover this afternoon.  This is two mist coats of Tamiya TS-13 Gloss Clear and it darkened the color quite a bit.

Another mock up to check body fitment since a few items were slightly warped.

I detailed painted the engine compartment.

One of the warped pieces was the roof top.  I have been bending the roof slightly in the opposite direction to remove the warp.

I painted the the Land Rover grille with Tamiya X-18 Semi Gloss Black and the silver trim with a silver Sharpie.

A mock up to check the fitment of the body on the chassis.  Looking good!

I left the coil wire long since the ignition coil is mounted on the firewall and not on the engine.  So far, so good!

I got the body, hood and doors in a coat of Polly Scale GN Big Sky Blue which is a close match to Land Rover Marine Blue.  The color is a tad darker than what you see here.  The flash washed out the color a little.

The chassis is done until I can paint the body and install it onto the chassis.

The body is ready for primer and paint.

I got the 2.25 Ltr. 4 cylinder engine wired and mostly assembled, I just need add the oil filler tube.

Then I discovered what the second smaller hole was for in the engine block...there are two nubs on the back of the base of the oil filler tube!  I guess I'll have to move the distributor over towards the center of the block and drill a hole for it.

I must have been tired last night when I painted the exhaust system before I painted the frame.  Well, I'll paint the frame and then paint the exhaust system...again!

Yep. Worse case scenario use two diffrent diameter pieces of round sprue, one for the distributor and one for its shaft.

As a worse case scenario, I would have used an 8 cylinder distributor from Parts By Parks and clipped off every other lead to make a 4 cylinder distributor.  The round sprue idea is a good one, too!

It's a good thing I have a few extra distributors in the stash.  Just drill one out and add some wires and Bob's your uncle!

I would agree it's for a distributor. Strange they forgot to include it.

Thanks gulftarpon!  If you are looking for a more standard size tire, check out Fireball Modelworks.

It looks like you've made a good start on it! I've started this kit years ago then put it in the box. I need to get it finished. The tires are Monogram's standard ones which are way too wide for my tastes.

I have been rethinking my paint choice for the body.  In my mind, the British Green is ultra glossy and I don't really want that.  It needs to be a bit more subdued.  I decided on changing from Tamiya British Green to Polly Scale GN Big Sky Blue with a Tamiya Gloss Clear coat.  This color shouldn't be that glossy.

I have been researching what engine is in this Land Rover and I have come to the conclusion that it is a 2.25 Ltr. Petrol (gasoline) engine.  But, what is the second smaller hole in the engine block?  Most of the pictures I have looked at don't show the side of the engine clearly.  The larger front hole is for a oil tube which is in the kit, but the smaller hole is for a distributor that is not included in the kit or listed on the instructions.  I can find a distributor and mount in my parts box and drill it for four plug wires and an ignition coil wire.

More Land Rover to come...

Thanks Lee!  The engine is a 4 cylinder.  I'm not sure what the engine size is as there was one Petrol (gasoline) engine and one Diesel engine available and there is no indication on the box art or instructions as to what is what.
