Jurassic Park Land Cruiser

This is a build I was sure I had posted here, until I was reading aussiemuscle308's post on the movie tour car (http://cs.scaleautomag.com/sca/modeling_subjects/f/33/t/131459.aspx) and found out I had completely forgotten to actually make said post.

The Land Cruiser tour cars mentioned in the book were always something that I wanted to build in scale, but since the descriptions of them were a bit sparse it took me a few brainstorming sessions to come up with a design that I liked and felt fit the time and style of the story. The kit was Tamiya's 80 VX Limited, modified to look like a not-quite-finished preproduction variant. Custom additions include a scratchbuilt electric motor/transmission setup, generic dashboard with 2x late '80s computer monitors, and graphics I drew up in Illustrator.

cool. i love the extra detail that makes it really pop. the color scheme is pretty eye-catching too. There's a lot of differences between the book and the movie and i do remember reading they were Toyotas (not Ford Exploder like the movie)

Thanks! Yeah, the book and movie are so far removed from each other they're almost totally different stories.

I read the book about 2 years before the first JP movie was made. Was so looking forward to it when I heard a movie was in the offing. It differed so much from the book to my disappointment. Maybe Quentin Tarentino or Martin Scorsese would have made it true to the novel. Michael Crighton describes in lucid detail about how the computer nerd Nedry was witnessing his intestines ripped out....definitely 18 rating! But dear Mr Spielberg (bless him) had to deviate away from the story and tone it right down for a broader audience that also included the kiddywinks who naturally would by buying all the spin off toys, tee shirts afterwards.

Spencer, that is a very nice model you made of a Toyota Landcruiser made as near as possible as described in the book as the core of this thread.

Incidentally, Tamiya missed a trick with their Jeep kit with the rectangular headlamps by not issueing it in JP decals.  Licencing probably, but also not aware of anybody making after market JP decals for the Jeep either.
