Help needed: 1/6 scale pickup truck
Posted by Angelo63 on Tuesday, June 26, 2018 1:42 PM

Hello to all.  I'm working on a large scale project to create a "technical" pickup based on a small-tp-medium sized pickup truck, something similar to these:

https://milinme.wordpress.com/2013/04/14/yemeni-military-toyota-technicals/

I've scoured many sites (modeling, RC etc.) looking for a suitable vehicle in 1:6 scale to no avail.  My question is whether there is actually a pickup truck made in this scale, and where can I find it.  Will very much appreciate it any information you could provide, and thanks for your time.

99% of what is out there in 6th scale is specialty items. There's a 6th scale RC Herbie, several Batmobiles. No trucks that I know of. Best I can tell you is to check some of the RC sites. They might have something.

My favorite color is clear. I am also ambidexterous, I can screw up equally well with either hand. I am 53 years old and been building for most of that time. :)

On the bench... somewhere. Pink Panther show car, 1978 Dodge Magnum Charger Daytona Midnight edition SE 300. Mongrel T.

If there was such a pickup truck kit, it would be in the military scale of 1/35 scale or smaller.  The 1/6 scale is an awkward scale and I do not know of any vehicles in that scale.

Appreciate your input.  I realize this would be a difficult search, which is precisely the reason I posted the question to the experts here.

The RC market is a difficult one for the project at hand because of all the "glitz" of the RC trucks: big tires, lots of stickers, paint jobs etc.  My project calls for a truck that lacks shine.  Plus there's the issue of size: even a small trck like a 2006 2-door Ford Ranger in that scale would be huge: approx. 34" long, 11.6" wide and 11.5" tall.

Is there perhaps a diecast option?

At any rate, appreciate your help.  Thanks again!

Hi, have you thought of 3d printing. They have a few items on shapeways in the rc and vehicle section that nay be printable in 1/6.

It will be EXPENSIVE though.

Years ago New Bright build several RC 1:6 scale trucks.  Going from memory, there was a Chevy Avalanche and Silverado SS; Ford Lightning and SVT Raptor; Hummer H2 and H2 SUT; Cadillac Escalade; Nissan Titan (rare) and some miscellanous cars ranging from VW Bugs to Corvettes.  I have a Silverado SS body that's a partial RC build using TXT-1 parts.  The best option to find them now is scale RC forums and good 'ol Ebay.
