Brian James A4 Transporter Trailer -- W.I.P
Posted by JayDubs on Friday, December 29, 2017 2:55 PM

I saw this trailer for sale on Modelroundup before Christmas and realized that I just had to have it.  This one is by Aoshima and is a 1:24 scale kit of the Euro/Asian spec A4 Transport Trailer by Brian James Trailers.  I put this bad boy on my Christmas list and waddaya know, it showed up under the tree along with the Meng F-350 Super Duty (which shall be the subject of another post).

Feel free to follow along as I unbox this kit and build it up

Box

This is the kit box as it arrived.  Interesting that it wasn't shrink wrapped, but frankly this was the first kit I've ever gotten from Amazon.

Inside the Box

Inside the box #2

Everything is contained in a single clear plastic bag.  Looks to be crisply molded in a light grey styrene that should take paint quite well.

Instructions

The instructions are fairly well detailed for a relatively simple kit.

I'm looking forward to putting this one together.  Hoping it will get me out of my slump.

Feel free to follow along.

This is actually going to be a great help as I want to scratch build some.... trailers in 1:64 ! I have brought some from a place in the UK who sells M2 / Greenlight ones , but I don't need a 2016 Ram to go with it .... I have plenty of Evergreen Sheets & Rods , so its just the correct placements etc . Good luck with the Build !

Finally got back at it after a nasty case of the flu Dead and having to get back into the swing of things as work.

These first two photos show the frame (chassis?) of the trailer after construction and after some minor detail painting.  I have to say this was more complicated than I expected.  Even though the kit provided very nice connecting points, because the frame consisted of several different pieces, there was alot of fiddling involved to get it squared up.

I'll show some of the more detailed pieces in the next post so as to minimize the number of photos included per post.

As promised, some more of the detailed parts of this kit.  As I've said before, I'm quite impressed with the level of detail of this kit.

First up is some minor detailing of the front of the trailer

Then the winch (I'm not happy that this photo was not as clear as I wanted).  I hope you can pick out the level of detail on the cable and handle.  Quite nice if you ask me:

The the transport wheel.

Looking at it from above, you can see the mold line that really should have been removed.  OOPS

Put it all together and you get a nicely detailed trailer, if you ask me:

Next stop: final construction, decals, and closing thoughts.

Stay tuned.
