Revell 77 GMC wrecker to 1984?
Posted by wclracer64 on Sunday, December 04, 2016 1:52 PM

Has anyone built the Revell wrecker using the MPC fall guy/ Deserter 84 GMC grill? That should be all that's needed to update the wrecker to an 83-84 model, right?

thanks!

No. The whole front clip (fenders, grille, hood and bumper) needs to be replaced. Better to just use the whole MPC cab.

Front Clip is completely different. I've done the opposite (mpc street machine cab (1976?) to the fall guy bed and chassis. It all lined up. Its fairly straight forward swap

What about the interior tub? Will the Revell parts work with the MPC can or do I also need the MPC interior? I can get just the cab parts without the interior on EBay.

You need to remember that the scale difference

is pretty great on these 2 kits (MPC 1/25-R/M 1/24).

I would use all parts needed from the MPC kit, and

just add the wrecker bed if I were to do this build!

Aren't they are both listed as 1/25th?

    I have a few different Revell/Monogram truck

kits. And they are bigger than the Deserter kit

that I also have.

But I can't say for sure about the wrecker kit!!

But sometimes kits get listed as 1/25th scale

when in fact they are 1/24th!!

I agree on the many different scales of the Chevy/GMC trucks by the model manufactures.  It is easier as previously stated to use the complete tub and cab with what ever you chose.

I think the wrecker kits were originally cast prior to the merge between Revell and Monogram.

The actual Monogram trucks are the larger scale from the actual Revell, MPC and AMT kits.

The wrecker kit you mentioned is a reissue of the Captain Hook kit from Revell. you might end up having to use the back half of the Revell wrecker kit to get the bed to fit the deserter truck properly.
