aerodyne sleeper/ snap-tite rigs
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, January 31, 2005 4:23 AM
Could some-one please tell me where I may find a double aerodyne sleeper for a 1/24 w900 kenworth. Plastic or resin would be ok. I would scratch build but I do not think I am up to that level as yet !!!
On another note: Where can I find a list of made/ available snap-tite trucks/trailers as revell do not seem to have anything on there web site. I wish to collect these so the son can build as well.
All help appreciated gentsSmileSmile

For the Aerodyne sleeper in 1/25 or 1/24 you have several options. Revell/Germany offered a kit of the KW T600 with the aerodyne sleeper in it already. That kit shows up on eBay all the time. The most common issue is listed as a Kenworth T600 "Hawaii", since it includes huge mural decals of a Hawaiian landscape and hula girl.
There is a resin re-pop of the Revell/Germany sleeper made by Griffen Designs, which you can get from for about 1/4 the price of the complete Revell/Germany kit.
The Monogram 1/25 scale snap-together kit is a KW W900 with Aerodyne sleeper, and it a decent kit for a snapper. Of course it's not been available for some time now.
As for what snap togeter truck kits were made, there are quite a few. Heres a semi (no pun intended) complete list of what I can think of right now:

Monogram 1/25 scale

Kenworth W900 Aerodyne
Peterbilt 359 w/ square headlights

Both of those kits were issued twice, but are not currently available.

Monogram 1/32 scale

Chevy Bison
GMC General
Peterbilt 359
Kenworth W900 Aerodyne
Peterbilt 352
Freightliner Conventional
Freighliner Cabover
Mack R600
Kenworth K100 Aerodyne Cabover
Mack CF pumper with searchlight
Mack CF pumper with water cannon
Ford Aeromax
Kenworth T600
Freuhauf Tanker Trailer
Freuhauf Dry Goods/Van triler
Freuhauf Reefer Trailer

Of all of those kits above, none are currently avaialble. Most of them were issued at least twice, the second issues included one of the above trailers in a set. The Pete 352 was only issued once (and is the hardest to find), and was never included in a truck and trailer set. The General and Bison have been re-issued the most (no idea as to why) at least four times, and are easy to find. The Ford Aeromax and KW T600 are the next easiest to find. Also, the KW T600, Ford Aeromax, Pete 359, KW K100 have all been issued several times with NASCAR style race car trailers. Only the Mack CF pumper is currently available in a rescue set with a snap together Malibu Police car/Fire Chief car.

AMT 1/32 scale

Kenworth W900 Aerodyne
Kenworth K100 Aerodyne Cabover
Kenworth K100 BJ and the Bear Cabover
Kenworth K100 BJ and the Bear w/ trailer
Mack Cruiseliner Cabover
Mack Cruiseliner Conventional
Mack Cruiseliner Conventional Wrecker
Ford LTL-9000 Conventional
Ford 9000 Cabover
Pete 359 "Shockwave" Jet powered drag truck
Volvo N-12 Conventional (same as the ERTL kit)
Freuhuaf Reefer Trailer
Freuhauf Van Trailer

Of all the AMT kits, none of them are currently avaialble, most only being issued one time. The KW W900 Aerodyne was just recently discontinued and is easy to find, but suffers from some major errors in the sleeper. The Volvo N-12 is also easy to locate, most recently being issued in the Coke-a-Cola series of kits. I beleive the Ford COE has been recently re-popped in resin, but I am not sure on that one. All the others are difficult to locate, and demand a rather high price when you find them.

ERTL 1/32 scale

International Transtar Eagle Cabover
Volvo N-12 (same as the AMT kit above)

The International kit has been re-popped in resin recently, but who does it escapes me right now.

There is a somewhat complete list of what 32 scale snappers were made. I am sure the other guys will think up of few more that I forgotten.

I need to go rest my brain now!!!Dead

Just because I start building it don't mean I am ever going to finish building it!!

G'day spud. A source may be, who are in N.S.W. Alternatively you could try Auslowe - they are in Tasmania - but don't have a website - contact Nigel Lowe on 03 62681166 (he's extremely helpful). One final source if these are of no help would be Jaymar model Parts

Personally I'd start with Nigel of Auslowe. Hope this helps.

A few more 1/32nd scale snap kits:

Volvo F12
Volvo F12 Globetrotter
20 ft Intermodal trailer w. container
Euro covered trailer
Log Trailer

Ford C800 Moving Type Van
Ford C900 cabover w/sleeper & 28 foot trailer

Someone said Monogram had plans to offer in 1/32nd scale an Ultraliner, GMC Astro/Chevrolet Titan, Fruehauf flatbed trailer.  Probably reducing the molds of their larger scale truck kits.

Check out my 1/32nd scale Ford CL9000
