57 Chevy Black Widow Nascar (finally finished)
Posted by texwardfan on Sunday, July 01, 2007 5:59 AM

This is the 57 chevy I built from two amt kits. I used the 57 Bel Air and the 55 Chevy 2 door sedan kits. I used the roof and quarter panels from the 55 and installed them on the 57. Click on the pics to make them larger.

fixed some photobucket links.

Why was it necessary to make a hybrid of the two years?

Just wonderin'...

The only 2 door sedan 57 Chevy available is a resin kit from MCW. AMT and Revell do not make a 57 chevy 2 door sedan and that is what the black widow was.

Very nice build.
I probably never will get my "Black Widow" finished....
But who knows, maybe after my 30 Ford Coupe and 34 Ford Coupe and 32 Ford Highboy and on and on and on is finished (the list seems to be endless) i will finish it?
Keep up the good work.
Cheers from

So you used a '57 Chevy resin kit and had to modifiy it with the '55 fins and roof?

I guess I am not getting it... wouldn't the '57 resin be more accurate if it was a two door? What am I missing?

If you go to my photobucket album in my signature and go to the 57 chevy subalbum it shows the 2 amt kits I used and the way I put them together. There is no resin in the model . I'm sure the mcw resin kit is great but i got the two plastic kits for a lot less money then the resin kit would have cost plus I had the fun of putting the 2 models together.

This is a answer to "semicolin":
Yes, the Black Widow used the heavy duty half ton rear axle from the Chevrolet truck division with six-lug wheels all around, not seven.
It also had a transverse track rod added to the rear axle for extra strenght, and dual shock absorbers bolted on all four corners.

Best Wishes

Congrats , you got
it done, and it's a beauty !! By the way, Rex White recently released an autobiography of his racing career.I think it's called "Golden Thunder",referring to most of his cars being painted gold and white. He was the leader of the "bowtie brigade"for years.Great work. Thanks for pics.
