Honda RA272 F1

This is Tamiya's great kit of the 1965 Honda F1 RA272 painted in the proper TS-7 Racing White. There are a couple of detail kits out for this car but I built it before any of them were available. I used Road and Track July 1982 issue for reference, therefor I added the Shell decals which aren't included in the kit. I used clear fishing line to replicate the fuel lines and cut aluminum tube for the stacks.

I wanted the car to look weathered so I covered the seat with Parafilm M and let it wrinkle and tear. I painted the inner door panels TS30 Silver Leaf then black and rubbed some of the areas with fine grit to let the alum. show through, especially where the drivers arms and hand would rub like by the shifter. I ran a fuel line through the cockpit that went to a fuel mixture control, a brain child of the driver, Richie Ginther.

I scuffed up the windshield with fine grit paper, and added etched fasteners on all the body work. I also trimmed the numbers individually so no clear carrier would show.

I mixed Testors metalizers several different ways for the aging effect and added several etched bolt heads throughout the engine. I put a rub mark on the side of the body and made the decal a little jagged where the driver would be climbing in and out of the car.

Honda made a cool F1 car!

The engine was actually 6 2cyl. 250cc mated together via common crankshaft, making around 230hp and revving to 11,500rpm!

Nice job Brian.

Brian,
Please tell me that is the 1/12th scale kit. . .
if it is the 1/20th , I surrender pal!
That is one awesome build in either case.
I was worried about the "ivory white" called for int he kit instructions for the 1/20 kit.

Thanks! It's 1/20, the 1/12 kit is the 271. Tamiya racing white is more of an ivory or off-white.

Brian,
Do a Google search for "HONDA 272"
on page three there is a 'Sound of Honda"
It's the 272 starting up and rolling out.

That was great! Interesting, the differences in the 272, 300 and 301.
