Resin Tires
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, February 17, 2004 8:33 AM
I am working on a John Force 1986 Olds Funny Car, I purchased some wrinkle wall rear slicks that are resin. What is the best way to achieve the track "worn" look? So far I have worked on 1 tire with 40 and 100 grit paper...the look is nice, but seems lacking in some way. Am I using the wrong grits to achieve the effect? Should I flat black over the worn surface?

I would suggest painting the contact surface (not the sidewalls) a mix of gray and black, then sanding with 240 grit in the direction of rotation.
40 and 100 might be too coarse.
