Cheetahs and Corvette
Grand Sports are ?

Well the Cheetah would never have been any good as a road racer because of the basic design. Having the driver sit in the extreme rear made for the car to very unbalanced and hard to see from. The Grand Sport could have been a great car had GM decided to actually race instead of just farming out to a few teams that had other cars in other classes. Roger Penske drove one but only because GM wanted Jim Hall to campaign it. Hall passed it on to Penske and it was never really given a chance to prove it's worth. By the time they would have made it work, probably the '65 season it would have had to compete with Daytona Coupes and Ferrari 250LMs for which it was completely outclassed. My question about road racing cars was a general one as I am new to this forum and was looking for others that were building these types of cars. Thanks, Rene'

60's cars are my favorites. Drag racers and GT racers above all! I have a Ford GT-40 to build and I want it to be perfect!

The GT-40s from Fujimi are nice, however if you get the chance try the Le Mans Miniatures kits as they are just great. I have 2 of them however I have not started either one because of the Chaparral. There is nothing like actually carbs on an engine not electronic fuel injection. Rene'

Yeah, I know about the Le Mans Miniatures. Renaissance is a goo brand too. But I think I'm not enough good to buy this pricey kits. I'll try them when I'll be better. It's easy to find them here in France, so I'll have the choice! But not for the moment. The GT-40 I have to build is the re-edition of the Revell one. I don't know if it's really nice but I'll try.

Love the GT40's Big Smile I have several of the Fujimi kits to build and one that I have built for myself. I did build 8 of the Mk II's that ran in the 66 LeMans on commision for someone else. Used the fujimi kits and modified and made decals for the other cars.

Also love the Ferrari 330P4. Was just lucky enough in the last few months to get one off of ebay. Built it right-a-way. No sitting on the shlef for this car. Wink

I don't know of any websites first hand. When I built my p4 I just did a general search for the "330P4" and used whatever I could find. The kit came out pretty good but I'm sure a real historian could point out lots of things wrong. It still looks good in my display cabinet though Smile

That is just wonderful, really a great job! I hope to post pictures of my Chaparral 2E soon. I am also attempting to build the old Aurora GT 40, not very nice from todays standpoint. Thanks, Rene'

Hey mach12003. Could you tell me if your GT-40 is a curb side or does the back open to see the engine detail. I've always wanted to build one and any info would be appreciated

It's the fujimi curbside kit. I would love to build a full detial kit but the only one that I've seen, that I like, is the LeMans Miniature multimedia kit and I can't get myself to spend the money on it. Althoug if I did I know I would be happy... Big Smile

I was up in Northeast Indiana (Fortwayne) this week for the holiday and when I visit anywhere I ALWAYS find the local hobby shops. There was a place there called Hobby Land and they had a copy. I can never find it in my home town either. It's always by luck that I run across it.

Hey Ron, just so happens I have a scanner at home, right here beside me. I'll scan it tonight after I get home from work.
Are there any size restrictions on your email address? if so you might need to email me a different address or I can print it out and mail it the old fashion way.

Either way I'll make you a copy and get it to you somehow.

I've picked up a few copies of Tamiya's magazine at their annual convention here in So Cal. You can subscribe to it. www.tamiya.com/english/news/magazine
It is published in Europe.(great britain i think) It covers everything in modeling from cars to planes to military.
I love that GT40 kit. I'll have to look for that fujimi kit.
