Toyota AE86 Trueno

Having had a few problems with painting this build(the interior is OK). I tried a few times with different colours, bleeding masking tape, stripping the paint of with brake fluid then oven cleaner jel. And then just giving up! Rebuilt the body, wheelarches detaching themselves when stretching over the interior tub, using thin Tamiya glue (rubbish).

I borrowed some decals and just took photo's, so here it is in it's trashy glory!

Hey Patrick,

Nice save on the paint. Love the weathering/ bumper damage, looks like a properly beaten post-race rally machine.
My experience with two-tone paint efforts on car model bodies: I've given up even trying with spray rattle can lacques such as Tamiya or Testors - the high solvent content tends to bleed thru any masking tape edge when I try to apply a final wet coat. I only do multi-tone using the matt base paints such as Zero Paints or Scale Finishes and then clear coat afterwords. Acrylic paints such as Tamiya's also behave well on masked two-tones although their gloss never seems to cure as dry/ hard/ smooth as the lacquers.

I always liked the AE86, and the roughed-up racing look really suits it. Nice save!
