AMT Double Dragster Build
Posted by Papajohn on Thursday, February 13, 2020 10:37 PM

These are my latest builds of the classic AMT "Double Dragster" kit consisting of a dual small block chevy rail and a Fiat altered with a blown Chrysler hemi. This kit uses parts molded from ancient tooling (early '60's?) which required extensive re-work but I enjoyed the challenge. I built both pretty much OOB except for decals, wiring, fuel lines and relocation of the gear shift on the Fiat off to the driver's right for better ergonomics.

I love the crude primitive back-yard experimental look of early drag cars. It's amazing how quickly and drastically the designs evolved during the '50's to the '60's. Looking forward to building a few more 60's altered's, rails and gassers.

Two very nice looking 'old skool' dragsters.  Makes me want to move those up on my list of builds.  I "jonsed" for a rerelease of that kit for many years, didn't want to pay the ridiculous EBay or show prices for it.  So when it came back out I picked up two of them.

I build models because I can't afford the real thing!

Very nice. Now that I have seen these I'll be putting my kit on the bench.

Great looking builds. The green metal flake is perfect for that period of drag racing.
