Family Chanel #16 Box Stock with a twist
Posted by 80'NascarCollector on Wednesday, June 27, 2018 6:57 AM

So many moon ago (atleast 20+ years isshh) I made this NASCAR with a twist.

I was doing alot of contest and I wanted to ''stand out'' from the rest. I was youngI made this projet. I was pushing the Box Stock category.

What's the twist....well, I detailled this car using only the parts in the kit. All the scratchbuilt parts were done using whatever was left in the box. Parts trees mainly.

Judges did not apreciate my effort. Most said I did follow the instruction. They were right, but this help my skill with scratchbuilding in a budget lol

Sold it on eBaY when I needed money for the new family addition.

 Roadkill project:

Current: General Mayhem

Next...Freiburger RR, Super Sammy, Mazdarati, Hemi Gremmy, Dulchich Mopar Muscle truck...

Wonderfully detailed & a nice twist , I do get the Box stock side of things , but if it was in the one , singular box parts , I'd say that's Smokey Unick levels of bending the rules ….."because : Nascar ! " LOL Well done !!

DUDE!! They should have started a new category just for this. Stupendous work.

My favorite color is clear. I am also ambidexterous, I can screw up equally well with either hand. I am 53 years old and been building for most of that time. :)

On the bench... somewhere. Pink Panther show car, 1978 Dodge Magnum Charger Daytona Midnight edition SE 300. Mongrel T.

That looks awesome.  Which years and brand of Nascar models do you like the best?  Seems like the 80s and 90s models are the least expensive I can find.  I was wondering if they would be good/fun to build compared to the modern ones from Revell.

I always prefered the 80 Nascar because they looked a real car.

But most of my Nascar projet were from the mid 90 (T-Bird, Monte Carlo) you know when the internet was starting. Back then you really needed to go through magazine to have info and details and me beeing up north, its wasn't easy.

I always found that newer Nascar were more complexe, and little harder to build, there so much going on.

Current 80's Collection

My best work (Nascar)

Wow.. That is a nice collection and great work.  I love them all.  I'm not much of a Nascar fan these days but I still think they look cool.  I was a fan in the 70s, 80s and 90s.  I really like that 24 car and he became my favorite driver.  I think you have convinced me to get some 90's cars.  The 80s cars look a little antiquated to me but you did such a great job on them I may have to try some of those too.

What you did is an example of what I've been trying to convince people that Box Stock should allow-use ANYTHING in the box to build the model. So far I've had no luck. I've had decent reception to the idea but no implementation of it. Closest was the idea to call it "Box Modified" but no willingness to make it contest class. The push continues.
