Tim Boyd's VBR in SAE Feb 2018
Posted by Sundance on Saturday, January 20, 2018 7:55 PM

I read and reread the article on the VBRs in SAE Feb 2018. I plan to build one using Revell's 31 Tudor.  My quesion is do these racers have roll bars, either a hoop or a cage? and also do they run glass? it looks like the coupe you built does not have any glass in it.

Thank you

Al. go online, just enter "vintage beach racers", all kinds of images. looks like some have glass, some don't, rollbars on some roadsters, didn't notice any cages. I'm building one too. Chopped '33 Ford body, '34 Ford frame, flathead from the '53 Ford pickup kit, '29 Ford radiator, just started tearing into kits that have been sitting to get whatever I thought would work. Ordered some stuff from Replicas and Miniatures, Model Car Garage, and Detail Master.....really fun, one of those builds where it is just falling together.

Thanks for the info.  I did go on the VBR website that Tim recommended and the cars that I saw looked like they did not have any roll bar at all except for the ones that looked like nothing more than a frame with four wheels and a motor and maybe I didn't go far enough.  I guess the glass would be optional.  Hope to see your project soon.  Don't know when I'll get started on mine as I am knee deep in finishing some of my older projects.
