Thanks guys. And vinnie, when you're runnin' empty up ahead, that's called "runnin' blocker". At least that's what they tell me. It's not like I'd have any first hand knowledge ya'know.

That's pretty neat. Noticed the tail and backup lights with no backlight straps. Is it a clone that they drive on the highway? If so, just how cool is that!!??!!!

It was a poor driver behind the mighty HEMI.Which engine car combo did Ford have banned for being to fast?Oh, I remember....none.If they ever name a King of all engines,The HEMI will reign supreme. You know it,I know it, so let's all eat drink and be merry.By the way,I love you guys.Even when you refuse to see the truth, and lie in denial.I am smiling.

I think we're more brothers under the skin than most think, Ford and Mopar. Think about the two "benchmarks" that come up when fast cars are discussed, the 427 Cobra and the HEMI. I think we were blessed to grow up in one of, if not the most interesting eras in motorsports, viva Fireball and Dyno Don.

The Ford 427 S.O.H.C. and the 427 Ford hi - riser were banned by nascar along with the Chyrsler hemi in 1965. Quoting Bill France " this was done so those who prefer to use general motors equipment will not be handicapped"

The facts just so y'all know
In the 1969 and 70 seasons
Fords and Mercurys won 40 races between both seasons.
Mopars won 62

Which INDIVIDUAL car won the most races between both years?
The Aero car that gets no respect - The Charger 500

According to official records - That's the way it happened.

The Daytona didn't make it's debut until the September 1969 race at Talladega - up until that point the Charger 500 was the Mopar weapon of Choice and was beat on pretty good by the tricked out Fords.

BTW - the 1970 season when both Ford Motor Company AND Chrysler had a pair of aero cars shakes out like this Fords 8 - Mopars 15. (That is just winged cars and log nose Fords - No Charger 500s)

Ford got beat at their own game - even after the complaining about the Hemi and building their own version of it.

Friendly Rivalries are what make the car hobby fun and we all have our favorites. One of the most fun cars I ever owned was a 68 Cyclone GT.

Your right about the Charger 500 being the forgotten car, it has long been my favorite MoPar. It was the first of the "aero cars", designed to counter the Ford Torino and Mercury Cyclones aero advantage (the recessed rear window of the charger looked good but was awfull aerodynamically). Ford then countered with the Torino Talledega and Mercury Cyclone Spoiler. After getting beat badly in the 69 season Chyrsler brought out the Daytona late in the year, then the Plymouth Superbird in 1970 (this was done in part to get Richard Petty to leave Ford and return to Plymouth). Ford was developing their point nose torino (called the king cobra) when the big boss, "Hank the Duce" pulled the plug on Fords racing operations in 1970. Chyrseler followed Ford and pulled out in 1971. There is a resin kit avalible of the King Cobra but I cant remember the maker off hand.........................Gee this is fun!!!!!!!!

Ford was working on a point nose Torino (called the King Cobra) for the 70 season when the boss "Hank the Duce" pulled the plug on all Ford racing. Chyrsler then dropped support for all their teams except Petty enterprises in 71. There is a resin kit of the King Cobra, but I cant remember the maker at the moment. ....................Gee this is fun, a chance to relive old memories.........Thanks, Raisin

Chevy?Chevy? - OH yeah I've heard of those , aren't those the cars that finally started winning AFTER NASCAR hobbled the Mopars and Fords?

SB2? Superiority? - Last season a Ford won the Championship and a Dodge won the most races.

Sorry - I couldn't let that post go unanswered - Where is everybody from? I'm in Northern Alabama.

Hey raisin27 - A buddy of mine built a KingCobra racecar - done up as Pearson's #17 Ford (used the chassis and decals from the Polar Lights car and the resin body combined with a Revell Torino body. SWEET lookin racecar.

The SB2?...........you can thank the boys from Dearborn, an almost exact copy of the ford cylinder head made to fit a chevy block. Oh,,,,,,,and who did chevy turn to when there IRL engine was getting eaten alive by the Hondas and Toyotas?........Fords Cosworth engineering !
